In a groundbreaking study by Ahmad, M.A., et al. (2023), groundbreaking results emerged from a comparison between Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) and High-Intensity Laser (HIL) for treating knee osteoarthritis. This randomised, double-blind clinical trial found both therapies effective in enhancing knee function and reducing pain alongside rehabilitation exercises. Notably, HIL outperformed in key areas, offering significant improvements in knee pain, physical functionality, and reducing knee-related disability beyond clinical expectations. What sets HIL apart from LLLT? Differences include: Power: HIL operates at a higher level, allowing for deeper tissue penetration. Thermic Effect: The increased power of HIL maximizes pain relief and provides effective thermal treatments for subacute and chronic conditions, improving blood circulation in the targeted areas. Dosage and Therapy Duration: HIL achieves greater coverage in less time. For instance, to treat a 25 cm² area, LLLT would require over 80 minutes at 0.5W and 15J/cm². In stark contrast, HIL can deliver 100J/cm² at 20W in just 2 minutes and 5 seconds, providing more than six times the dosage and all the accompanying benefits.
