🚀 Identifying a Problem Worth Solving 🚀 In the dynamic world of startups, numerous ideas may appear to be the next unicorn. Investors frequently hear repetitive ideas from founders who believe their ideas are unique. 👨 As a founder, it's crucial to recognise that whatever you're building, someone else is likely pursuing a similar path. This is the dilemma with problem-based ideation. While the advice often centres around solving a problem you've personally faced, it's essential to acknowledge that others may have encountered the same issue. 👉 Consider industries like food delivery, ride-sharing, or dating apps; the market is saturated with similar products. Achieving a truly differentiated idea is challenging, leading to intense competition from day one. 👉 The key lies in delving deeper, peeling the layers of the problem like an onion.  The first level involves acknowledging things an outsider might find intriguing. However, true differentiation requires reaching the core and understanding the problem's root cause – a secret that sets you apart from the competition. 👉Drawing a line in the sand today about your perceived problem and solution is just the beginning. Recognize that your initial assumptions may be off, but that's part of the evolving process. Ideas don't emerge fully formed; they evolve through continuous development and iteration. In the early stages, conflicting opinions within the founding team are common. Instead of trying to simultaneously test everything, focus on a clear direction and get your product in front of customers. It's about creating a behaviour exploration and understanding more about the people for whom you want to develop a product. 👉Remember, the journey to entrepreneurial success involves embracing uncertainty, iterating on your ideas, and, most importantly, gaining valuable feedback from those who matter the most – your customers. 🗓️ I noticed that today is officially "Back to the Future Day," one of my favorite movies! That got me thinking about how venture capital requires us to attempt to see the future - time travel if you will... 🔮 Much like Doc Brown and Marty McFly's time-traveling adventures, success with placing VC "bets" often lies in the ability to navigate both the past and the future. 📈 Just as Doc Brown emphasized the importance of knowing where (and when) you're going, investors need to understand historical market trends while having the foresight to predict what will shape the future. Looking for clues in the past can often help plot a course to an innovative future. 🚘 In the movie, Doc Brown's DeLorean needed to hit 88 miles per hour to blast through time—a perfect metaphor for startups reaching critical mass/velocity. In the world of venture capital, a funded company must reach their own "88mph moment" where success becomes inevitable. 🎥 In the movie, the characters couldn't predict every twist and turn.
