Have you noticed that October is packed with healthcare and medical conferences? 😱 It feels like the whole industry comes together this time of year. Just this month, we've got: The MedTech Conference in Toronto, HLTH Inc. in Las Vegas, and Frontiers Health in Berlin! It's like everyone in the industry is ready to spark new ideas and push the boundaries of what’s possible. I’ve been thinking about how this connects to something called the October Theory — basically, the idea that big shifts tend to happen in the fall. Maybe it’s the energy of the changing seasons, or just the fact that we’re all wrapping up the year and looking ahead. Either way, October is when magic happens in healthcare! 🦄 Anyone else attending these events or following the discussions? Let’s connect and see where this October takes us! 😎 #Healthcare #MedTech #HLTH #FrontiersHealth #OctoberTheory #Innovation #Networking

#HIMSS vs. #HLTH 🤺 I am just back from two conferences in Europe: HIMSS in Rome followed in two weeks by HLTH in Amsterdam. ✅️ Both conferences are trying to expand outside the US. ✅️ Both are focused on digital health. ✅️ Both were not really big. ✅️ Both attracted the best speakers and panelists - a truly splended mix of international #healthcare leaders. However, in my personal impression, HIMSS was completely knocked out by HLTH this time. 👊🏆 Of course, everyone at HLTH was amazed by an unforgettable atmosphere of never-ending celebration 🍻: terrific production, colors, music 🎶, food, hairdresser ✂️🪮 and makeup corner💄, on-site and off-site activities, tons of give aways and unforgettable funny #unicorn 🦄 ready to take a picture 📷 with each and every participant. (💡Eventually it looks like we finally have the first-time ever COOL 🎉 event in such a conservative industry like healthcare🩺). But ☝️ A true X-factor of HLTH was its amazing networking platform. 🤝 That was an absolute game-changer in what you take from the conference experience at the end 🃏. Not only the networking app was smartly built and, sorry for cliche, user friendly. (Very simple, but unfortunately not obvious to many conferences' organizers 🤷♀️ - If you position yourself as a leading event in technological field you must use up-to-date technological platforms). The HLTH concept itself was so much #networking oriented 🎯 that literally "required" from every participant to commit to be an active networker. As if it was saying: "Want to enjoy being a part of our #community? Be open to communicate and meet people". Bravo to organizers! 🫡🫶👏 With no doubt, those conferences that do not understand importance of networking and do not close this gap in their programs will find themselves not relevant very soon. 💯 People vote by feet. ⛷️ For me the choice is obvious. What about you❓️ #hltheurope #himsseurope #digitalhealth #networking

I had the pleasure of attending the AHIP conference last week. It was a great opportunity to connect with old and new acquaintances and to spread the message of Livara Health with folks struggling through high musculoskeletal costs. A few thoughts: 1. Many conferences have really leaned into the moderated panel format, even for more intimate breakout sessions. I imagine the upside is that you can pack more organizations/people into the agenda, as instead of one organization presenting, you might have 3 on a panel and another as moderator. The downside is that there tend to be less actionable takeaways from a panel discussion. Panels tend to lean into the 'what' and the 'why', which are important. But people at conferences are more interested in the 'how' and those being as actionable as possible. 2. One booth in the expo hall had puppies to cuddle at their booth. It was a mob scene. Genius. 3. In panel or presentation formats, people have a bad habit of ending their session or thought with "And so the question is how do you do X, Y, and Z?" or some version of that. Everyone came to the conference for the answer to those questions. 4. I used to think of Las Vegas a certain way. I don't know if it's age or something else, but I came away from this trip feeling like it would be a nice place to visit for leisure for a few days. 5. Pharmacy spend is such a big topic across healthcare right now. One presenter said something to the effect of, "people think it is a spend problem (the drugs are so expensive), but I think of it as a utilization problem." I thought that was a good point, and you could extend that to all corners of healthcare. Bringing down cost - like salaries, supply chain, research, rent - seems difficult. But helping patients or members make the right choices for outcomes and cost feels very practical - like, oh I don't know, what we do everyday with musculoskeletal patients at Livara Health 6. Anytime I hear Sachin H. Jain, MD, MBA speak or share here on LinkedIn, I am impressed with both his thought leadership on the opportunities in healthcare, and his ability to really eloquently relay his thoughts and the actions his organization is taking. You get the sense he sees the field really well years into the future. AHIP certainly brings together a great group of thought leaders. I'll look forward to the next one!
