Congrats to Gigs on their Series B raise! (well done Dennis Bauer, Rafa Plantier, Hermann Frank 👏🏻) It’s fantastic to finally witness more funding for innovation in the telecom sector. For a lot of us, it’s clear that the end state is the proliferation of innovative and highly customized connectivity experiences for people, machines, and enterprises with specialized vertical solutions tailored to specific industries (fintech, HR, travel, transportation, etc.). The days of merely reselling the same one-size-fits-all plans from MNOs are over. Everyone now expects connectivity to be accessible in simple ways, focusing on Customer Experience (CX) and Automation while maintaining complete control and flexibility in ways the industry was never set up to deliver. A string of innovative and disruptive companies will be crucial to rebuild the telecom ecosystem in this era of Platforms and AI. Personally, I’m thrilled to see what Gigs, Airalo, Telgea, Popcorn, Salvy (YC W24), Helium Mobile and others are working on. Collectively, these companies and others who enter the telecom innovation market will create a positive and lasting change in the telecom market. The upcoming years are going to be exciting! Let’s build and innovate, and support one another on the journey!
Incredibly excited to share that Gigs has raised a $73M Series B led by Ribbit Capital, with participation from all existing investors. 🚀 Over the past 4 years, Gigs has built the world’s first vertical operating system for telecom. We've made global networks programmable, interoperable and automated and led the way in transitioning the telecom industry into an era of digital distribution and operation. Telecom for the platform age. Building Gigs is no small feat. We couldn’t have done it without our immensely talented, dedicated and hard working team that now spans across our San Francisco HQ, our Berlin and London hubs, and beyond. We have built one of the most talent-dense teams in the world, most of whom have worked at leading tech companies, including Stripe, Airbnb, and Nubank. If you want to join the team transforming the telecom industry, check out gigs.com/careers. Going into 2025, we couldn’t be more bullish on the market and the customer pipeline we’re set to launch over the coming quarters. Thanks to our amazing network of investors, customers, partners, and especially all Gigsters! We’re just getting started! 😍

C-CONNECT, a new virtual mobile network operator, has recently launched across South Africa, aiming to revolutionize the mobile service experience for the country’s discerning prepaid user base with an innovative rewards-based approach. As an emerging contender in the telecommunications arena, C-CONNECT stands out not only for its cost-effective solutions but also for the opportunities it presents to entrepreneurs and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMMEs) eager to adopt cutting-edge solutions. Leveraging the solid network infrastructure of Cell C, C-CONNECT introduces a distinctive offering to the market: a rewards program that compensates users for their mobile expenditures. Customers earn a 10% return in the form of Cha-Chings, the company’s proprietary in-app currency, whenever they recharge their Airtime or Data. These Cha-Chings can then be exchanged for a variety of lifestyle rewards, such as prepaid utilities, event tickets, and gaming vouchers. In my upcoming book The #Frugal #Economy, I show how #mobile #telecom operates can save money and generate new income by "pooling" and #sharing their resources: https://lnkd.in/eP5Bk7pv This collaborative practice is called Business-to-Business (#B2B) #Sharing, a disruptive new paradigm that will unleash #trillions in dollars in new economic value and unleash a torrent of #digital #innovation worldwide. #B2B #Sharing is one the 3 core pillars of the (Networked) #Frugal #Economy. Read my Sustainable Brands article on #B2B #Sharing's trillion-dollar promise: https://lnkd.in/eDdAF6HP The #Network #APIs embody perfectly the spirit of #B2B #Sharing. Network APIs are the way to easily access, use and pay for (mobile) network capabilities. On September 11, the world’s largest #telecom operators, including América Móvil, AT&T, Bharti airtel, Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Reliance Jio, Singtel, Telefónica, Telstra, T-Mobile, Verizon and Vodafone, together with Ericsson launched a new venture that will combine and sell network Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) on a global scale to spur #innovation in digital services. The venture will drive implementation and access to common APIs from multiple telecom service providers to a broader ecosystem of developer platforms. In the past, it has been impractical for developers to integrate the different capabilities of hundreds of individual telecom operators. The newly formed company will combine network APIs globally, with a vision that new applications will work anywhere and, on any network, making it easier and quicker for developers to innovate. Gigs has raised a $73 million Series B led by Ribbit Capital to redefine connectivity as we know it. Imagine subscribing to a phone plan through your banking app or activating eSIMs with a simple QR code—that future is already here, thanks to Gigs. Since first meeting and partnering with founders Hermann and Dennis in 2021, we’ve been inspired by their vision of embedded, not bundled, connectivity. Much like Stripe did for payments, Gigs is transforming industries like fintech, travel, and HR — making it possible for businesses like neobanks to launch and embed phone and data plans into their existing offerings. On our blog, Frederik Hagenauer of our SaaS & Infra team and Wissam Nasreddine of our Growth team share why we’re tripling down on our investment in Gigs to support their mission of redefining traditional telecoms ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/d-PgYihX Media coverage on the Series B round can be found in the comments section. #esim #mvno #telecoms #seriesb #venturecapital
