On October 16, our community held a panel discussion on "IT Talent in LATAM: Challenges and Solutions." The event provided an opportunity to explore IT talent in Latin America from various perspectives: recruitment, IT managers, local companies, relocating professionals, and those working abroad. The discussion was so lively and dynamic! The response from the audience has been incredible — so many people eager to ask questions! It's great to see such high engagement. What touched me most in this discussion was the ease and openness with which our experts from LATAM approach things. The key takeaway is the focus on the ability to learn—there are no perfect candidates, and that’s okay. It seems that in such an environment, it's genuinely easier to grow professionally and reach new heights.

READY, SET …. RECRUIT!! So conference season in talent acquisition has come to an end for another year. Kudos to Rich Lewis-Jones of SmartRecruiters & Jo Vohland Trevor Vas of ATC - Talent Acquisition Events & Media for fantastic events in Melbourne this week & last. Both #HSAPAC2024 & #ATC2024 were, to use a Melbourne term, “grouse”. There was a treasure trove of content shared over 3 days. Topics such as #artificialintelligence, #skillsbasedhiring and talent intelligence were front & centre. As was technology, how it’s used, how it’s deployed, what’s the business case & how do we know it’s successful. So much to consider can be heading spinning & disorienting. The eternal question for #talentacquisition leaders is “With so much to consider, where do I start?” I know this is the eternal question because I heard it asked numerous times by audience members of the presenters during the two conferences. “What advice would you give in regards to getting started on (INSERT ISSURE HERE)?” Something struck me at these conferences when this question was asked. The case studies & presenters I found most impressive had variations on the same answer. That being - “JUST START!!” “GET GOING AND WORK IT OUT AS YOU GO!!” “SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO BUILD THE PLANE WHILE FLYING IT!!” The ancient military strategist Sun Tzu said “Opportunities multiply as they are taken.” Confucius spoke of the longest journey starting with a single step. It’s my opinion this millenniums old wisdom has real application for TA professionals in 2024. Of course not everything can be changed without assistance, sign off or agreement from the wider business, but there are areas where incremental enhancements can be shown. Done well, these can deliver real business impact elevating the TA function’s prominence & perceived value. Opening up those larger projects that require wider business sign off on the basis of your newly displayed credibility. I thought Allen Russell’s presentation on talent intelligence was a superb example of this. I don’t see taking action as asking for forgiveness rather than permission, more it is about having the courage to see yourself as a genuine subject matter expert capable of taking your broader business on a journey of understanding. Show them what you already know - how transformative seemingly small but proactive first steps can be with regards to talent. As the great Paul Kelly warbles “From little things, big things grow.” Thank you to both sets of conference organisers for their efforts in elevating the value of our profession over the last week & a half.

Can Luxembourg Solve Its Talent Crisis? Reflections from the 10x6 Event Tuesdays Paperjam 10x6 event brought together 500 attendees to discuss "Talents in Luxembourg." The event was impeccably organized, and I'd like to extend a special thanks to Stéphanie Kitoskis de Boutselis for her outstanding coordination. 👏 The platform and the concept were brilliant, providing a space to tackle important issues. However, I had hoped for more actionable insights on attracting, retaining, and managing talents effectively. Discussions on evolving job requirements, work methods, and the modern work environment were absent. The content of the event highlighted why Luxembourg struggles with talent acquisition and retention but missed practical strategies and solutions. This is a critical gap as the country faces a looming talent crisis if these issues are not resolved. At Flibco, we take a different approach. We've built an international team and use innovative talent management strategies. This has helped us attract and retain top talent, setting us apart. Luxembourg must catch up to avoid a future talent shortage. Let’s use platforms like Paperjam 10x6 to push for practical discussions and solutions.

As professionals, we often focus on future endeavors, striving for #careergrowth. It's important to reflect on the paths we've traveled and the experiences we've gained. #ExitInterviews provide a valuable opportunity to do that, serving as a bridge between the past and the future. Yesterday, I completed my exit interview for Alliance2015. For me, it was an immense opportunity to reflect on my achievements, areas for improvement, and lessons learned. Reflecting on both my and the organization's commitment is crucial for personal and professional growth as I transition to a new role. During my time as a Communications Assistant in the #Advocacy & #Communications Group: - I realized the importance of working in an inclusive and flexible environment, and I'm grateful for the management of Martina Salvioni and Antonia Potter Prentice - I continued my work at the EU level, contributing strategically to internal and external communication, advocacy, and key events, such as the #GlobalHungerIndex EU launch at the European Parliament. - I gained valuable insights into the #humanitarianaid and #development sector, particularly in emergencies, crisis management, and EU funding. - I expanded my understanding of working within a large #network, on structure, governance processes, while maintaining communication with members from different countries in 4 working languages. - I'm pleased that my proposals for the communications strategy, the guidelines, and new channels were implemented, improving past processes. - One of my major successes during this period was the press engagement for the GHI Launch at the EU level, with journalists from POLITICO Europe, Euronews, Euractiv, alanews, ANSA, Al Jazeera English, among others. Why exit interviews hold immense value? Departing employees offer unique insights into the organization's culture, processes, and dynamics. Their feedback can uncover blind spots, identify areas for improvement, and highlight strengths to foster a positive work environment. Actionable data from exit interviews can refine policies, procedures, and practices, leading to continuous improvement. And by actively seeking feedback through exit interviews, organizations demonstrate a commitment to employee #voice and #empowerment. I'm happy Alliance2015 decided to work on how to raise our #voice during my last Away Day. In conclusion, exit interviews are not mere formalities but strategic tools for organizational and professional growth and development. By embracing these conversations with #openness, organizations and professionals can glean valuable insights, nurture a culture of improvement, and pave the way for #future success. As we bid farewell to departing colleagues, let's seize the opportunity to learn, grow, and evolve together. The end of one chapter marks the beginning of another, filled with endless possibilities and opportunities for advancement. I was glad to work with Alliance2015 team, thank you very much everyone!
