What is CNAME cloaking or CNAME deception? Imagine you go to the CNN website and it loads a bunch of ads from different servers/sites. Now, if you use an ad blocker, these ads will be blocked, which CNN would not be happy about. There's a workaround that CNN can use, and that is to mask these ad servers as its own and trick an ad blocker into thinking that these resources are actually from CNN and not from some other servers or sites. For example, if an ad was loaded from the ad.google.com server, it will appear to an ad blocker as ad.cnn.com. This is known as CNAME cloaking, which means masking ad servers as if they were your own servers to get away with showing ads. However, Brave and many other browsers like Brave check if a resource resolves to an image or an embedded item is actually from the CNN server and is not being masked. If you run a site that generates revenue from showing ads on your site, how would you tackle this?
