It’s that time again. This is MHC’s 8th year in a row to participate in No Shave November. Over the seven previous years, MHC employees & friends have contributed over $100,000 to No Shave to help battle cancer. So what is No Shave November?? It’s a movement to grow cancer awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose during treatment, and let it grow wild and free. You simply donate the money you typically spend on shaving and grooming to the foundation to fund education about cancer prevention, save lives and aid those fighting the battle against cancer. Men and women are both encouraged to participate. Men can participate by growing a beard or mustache. If you’re not into facial hair, that’s OK, you can join in by skipping a haircut. Women can let those legs go au naturel by not shaving/waxing (it’s leggings season anyway so no one will know) or skipping a hair appointment. If you’re not into growing facial hair, hairy legs or skipping a haircut, that’s fine. Just look at your contribution as an opt out fee that’s going to a good cause. I’m sure all of you know or have someone close to you (family member, friend or co-worker) that has been affected by some form of cancer. In an effort to increase awareness and help raise money for prevention and education, I'm asking the LinkedIn community for support in our campaign for No Shave November. This year MHC's goal is to raise $15,000. This money will help fund a variety of programs such as Fight Colorectal Cancer, American Cancer Fund, Aim at Melanoma Foundation, Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and others. Think biG and be courageous! Will glioblastoma, “the hardest nut to crack”, prove amenable to combined neoantigen plus checkpoint inhibitor immunotherapy? It’s no secret that treating glioblastoma has proven to be one the most challenging tumors, among a list that also includes melanoma. For at least the last 26 years that I’m familiar with since my mom’s brief encounter, GBM patients have faced a futile and bleak prognosis with little change in the standard of care. But as we are beginning to appreciate, the Moderna-Merck Phase 2 clinical trial combining checkpoint inhibitor immunotherapy, Keytruda, with an mRNA neoantigen, personal cancer vaccine therapy strategy demonstrated remarkable promise in difficult to treat, high-risk melanoma patients. A bold new chapter in this developing story is being written in Australia using a similar strategy for GBM. Though still an “n=1 pilot program,” this moving, tag-team summary presentation offers a glimpse of marvel and hope for patients that today face the bleak reality of a terminal illness. https://lnkd.in/gpAAknCt

Today is Gliomablastoma Awareness Day 🧠🌟 Have you heard the heartbreaking story of Neil Armstrong's daughter who bravely battled Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare and aggressive pediatric brain cancer. Despite advances in medicine, DIPG remains one of the most challenging cancers to treat, with a zero percent survival rate and radiation therapy still being the primary treatment option. Karen's story continues to raise awareness about the urgent need for more research and better treatments for DIPG.
