In collaboration with the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT)’s Urgent and Emergency Care team, we have published new guidance that outlines core principles to guide actions and behaviours for effective front door acute patient care.
Our clinical vice president, Dr John Dean, said: ‘We know that delivering acute care for medical patients needs joint working of specialties. Local clinical leaders across specialties should work with operational colleagues using these principles to enable the care delivery they want to provide.’
The 10 principles pinpoint ways of working to improve the patient flow and overall experience, learn more about the guidance: https://ow.ly/wBcj50SRkvY

New AMA policies will shift the course of physician training on matters such as compassionate leave. Learn how #OurAMA member #medstudents led the way.
In recent news from CBS Boston, the difficulties in securing timely doctor's appointments in Massachusetts during peak illness seasons have highlighted a critical issue: the growing scarcity of primary care physicians. The reasons are multifaceted, involving economic, educational, and systemic challenges that deter new doctors from entering primary care.
At Paving Practices, we recognize that resolving the primary care shortage isn't just about increasing the number of doctors; it's about transforming how healthcare is delivered.
Here’s how we are addressing these challenges:
Innovative Education Programs: We are developing and supporting pathways that make it feasible and attractive for future medical professionals to enter and thrive in primary care settings. This includes advocating for and implementing educational reforms that reduce the debt burden of medical education.
Enhanced Role of APPs: Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants are perfectly positioned to help fill these gaps. By enhancing their training and expanding their scopes of practice within a team-based care model, we can alleviate some of the pressures on the primary care system.
Reducing Administrative Burden: We support initiatives aimed at streamlining administrative tasks that currently overwhelm primary care providers. By advocating for insurance reform and smarter regulation, we can free up doctors to spend more time with their patients.
As we look forward, it’s clear that comprehensive solutions are needed to ensure everyone has timely access to primary care. Through collaboration and innovative approaches, we aim to not just navigate this crisis but to transform it into an opportunity for sustainable healthcare improvement.
We invite all stakeholders in the healthcare industry to join us in this endeavor. Together, we can rebuild a robust primary care system that is accessible, efficient, and attractive to the next generation of healthcare providers.
