When ovarian cancer is more advanced at the time of diagnosis, it will sometimes have spread to the surface of the bowel (intestine). In these cases, to ensure as much of the cancer is removed as possible, surgery may include removing a part of the bowel. If the two ends of the bowel cannot be joined back together, the surgeon will create a stoma Our booklet, in partnership with Target Ovarian Cancer, is a mini guide to navigating ovarian cancer and stomas, which you can download for free on our website: https://lnkd.in/gJYabdk 💜 #ovariancancer #stoma #support

Pancreatic cancer research focuses largely on detection. We are one of few institutions focused just as intently on finding “markers of benign-ness”— signs that a patient may not need pancreas surgery because their cyst is unlikely to become cancer in their lifetime. Patients with soft-tissue sarcoma treated with neoadjuvant, or pre-surgical, immunotherapy had tiny residual tumors at the time of surgery and promising long-term survival, according to our Phase II trial results. See more in “A randomized, non-comparative phase 2 study of neoadjuvant immune-checkpoint blockade in retroperitoneal dedifferentiated liposarcoma and extremity/truncal undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma”. The recent Cancers journal publication presents a nuanced systematic review of laparoscopic 🤖 and robotic-assisted surgeries 🎮 for colon cancer, analyzing outcomes from 21 studies with 50,771 patients. Robotic surgery is linked to longer operative times ⏱️ but shorter hospital stays 🏥 and an increased count of lymph nodes harvested, with no difference in leak rates. This comprehensive data highlights the critical role of individualized surgical approaches 🎯 and points toward the evolution of patient-centered care in oncology.
