As ASBH 2023 is rapidly approaching, AMBI will be highlighting talks that will be given by AMBI faculty. Prof Evelyn Tenenbaum will be giving a talk titled "Solutions to Informed Consent and Coercion Issues Related to Split Liver Transplants" on Thursday, October 12th at 2:30pm. Brief summary: Liver transplantation is different from transplanting other donor organs because some recipients can achieve good long-term outcomes with only half a donor’s liver. This means that some deceased donor livers can be split, saving two adult lives instead of one. However, splitting livers is a complex medical procedure requiring substantial physician expertise and involving difficult choices for transplant recipients. This presentation will address how the informed consent process needs to be altered to protect patient autonomy and the steps that can be taken to avoid the inherent coercion/manipulation that may be required to convince transplant patients to accept split liver transplants. Progress Update on Our Clinical Trial in Prostatectomy Patients We are excited to announce the latest milestone in our pilot clinical trial focusing on neurostimulation therapy for erectile dysfunction post-prostatectomy. The fourth patient has been successfully implanted on March 21st, Thursday, marking another significant step forward in our mission to improve patient outcomes. Under the expert guidance of Dr. Phil Dundee, Principal Investigator, we are proud to report not only the success of the fourth implantation but also the promising results from our previous cases. As Dr. Dundee remarks, "The success of the fourth implantation shows the good progress of our study. Additionally, the functional data recently obtained from the third case underscores the remarkable preservation of erectile function post-prostatectomy with the CaverSTIM device, aligning with the excellent outcomes observed in our initial cases. Although further data is needed to draw definitive conclusions, I believe the clinical study is confidently progressing towards success". These achievements underscore our commitment to advancing innovative therapies and providing hope for patients facing erectile dysfunction following prostatectomy. Honored to talk on therapy and rapidly evolving advances in #bladdercancer-1) Firstline therapy is evolving with competing paradigms for metastatic cisplatin ineligible disease- platinum-based chemo followed by avelumab maintenance & Enfortumab Vedotin (EV)+Pembrolizumab, 2) For Cisplatin-eligible metastatic disease, cisplatin-based chemo followed by maintenance avelumab is the convention (if stable or response to chemo), and recent encouraging survival benefit from combination cisplatin-gemcitabine + nivolumab was reported from the CHECKMATE901 trial (data are awaited), 3) Adjuvant nivolumab following surgery for muscle-invasive disease is approved- should we use molecular residual disease (MRD) by ctDNA to select patients for therapy? 4) Data from Phase III trials evaluating neoadjuvant regimens (cisplatin-based #chemotherapy+PD1/L1 inhibitor, EV+pembrolizumab) are awaited, 5) Role of erdafitinib in FGFR2/3 mutation/fusion+ patients, 6) Role of sacituzumab govitecan for therapy of metastatic disease, 7) metastatic disease remains incurable in most cases with current standard therapy unfortunately and #clinicaltrials must be always sought- please attend the annual AdventHealth Central Florida #Cancer Institute Oncology #Nursing Conference on October 15 Sunday at the Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld
