This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, during which we want to honor and appreciate the hard work of MEMS' ACE Accredited Team. These dispatchers go above and beyond their call of duty every day. They are not mere phone operators but powerful multitaskers coordinating emergency responses to someone else's worst day. They are often heard and not seen; they are the first First-Responder to any emergency. We want to wish every dispatcher at MEMS, our partner agencies, and beyond a Happy Dispatchers Week.

Today begins National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, or as we like to call it: TC Week. It is a week dedicated to the hard-working first responders who are always heard, but never seen. It's a week to celebrate and honor those professionals who work long hours, sacrificing time with loved ones, missing out on important events. The national staffing crisis means 8 hours are often forced to 12, and 12 to 16. Weekends become shorter. Each new shift, someone will hear the first cries of life while someone else will hear the final breaths - with a mix of everything you can imagine inbetween... and some things you not only can't imagine, but wouldn't want to. And dispatchers are there through it all, every step of the way. This week, please take a moment to extend some gratitude towards 9-1-1 dispatchers who do more than most will ever know to help keep us safe. Happy TC Week, y'all! 💛

Now is not the time to give AT&T and FirstNet a whole new spectrum band. AT&T does not need this spectrum, but public safety agencies do. This spectrum grab appears to be a means to an end for AT&T, despite what the harm to public safety users and the citizens they protect might be. It’s yet another shadowy Washington-focused power play that has real life impacts for all of us. The FCC should reject this blatant example of corporate greed and AT&T, and their supporters should put their interests aside and listen to the men and women on the front lines of public safety.
