Some cool things going on at MEMS. Happy to be a part of this organization!
We're trying and succeeding with new ways to help our pediatric patients experiencing mental health crises who call 911 in central Arkansas at MEMS - Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services! With such a looming public health problem, it takes a village, some creativity, and some amazing technology with Pulsara. Proud to be a part of this effort! https://lnkd.in/gcRAU9z9

At MEMS, we have the Phoenix Award, presented to field crew members and dispatchers who played a part in resuscitating a patient able to leave the hospital with full neurological function. Many have received the Phoenix Award, and many are familiar with and certified in CPR; in emotionally charged situations, few of us know how we would react if it were one of our loved ones lying on the floor in front of us. In November 2023, EMT Hunter Littleton's father suffered a cardiac arrest at home. Hunter was off duty and performed CPR on his father for over 15 minutes before local first responders arrived. This week, we presented Hunter with a Phoenix Award alongside his father, who has fully recovered.

The mental health of America’s youth is under duress, and it didn’t start with COVID-19. It’s a problem that’s been a much longer time coming. Metropolitan EMS knew there was a better way to get pediatric #behavioralhealth patients the care they need when they need it. Through a new protocol combined with Pulsara, they've achieved a 44% reduction in #pediatric mental health patients transported to the ED. “Being able to take pediatric patients straight to truly definitive management, and not having to go sit on the wall in a hospital that can’t accept these patients for an extended period of time, makes everybody happier. The medics are happier, Arkansas Children’s Hospital is happier, the behavioral health facilities are happier because they’re getting patients straight from the field, and the parents usually come with them for the intake process. We get our crews back in service quicker. It prevents secondary transfers. So, it’s been a win all around.” - EMS physician Brandon Morshedi, MD, DPT, FACEP, FAEMS, NREMT-P, FP/CCP-C, assistant medical director for MEMS - Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services #ItsAboutPeople

What a great team! CPR was on point! #ProjectADAM #Preparedness Cabot Public Schools MEMS - Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services
Congratulations to Cabot Panther Academy for being recognized as a Heart Safe School by Arkansas Children's Hospital. CPA participated in a Project ADAM Drill this morning which consisted of a team lead by Nurse Lexi Gibbs responding to a cardiac arrest emergency at school. The team started CPR in 20 seconds! Thank you to Arkansas Children's, MEMS, and the Cabot Fire Department for partnering with us and to Nurse Lexi and her team for their hard work! We only have ONE more school to go before every school in the Cabot School District is Project Adam designated!
