Starting a new week of #MensHealthMonth with this very important reminder from Ronny Zondi who shared his story with us last year. 💚 Like many men, Ronny (a former professional footballer) was hesitant to seek help when he was diagnosed with depression. His doctor suggested that he admit himself into a mental health facility. Whilst hesitant at first, Ronny eventually took the leap. According to The Mental Health Foundation, men are also more prone to using potentially harmful coping methods such as alcohol and drugs, and are also less likely to talk to friends or family about their mental health. However, research points to the fact that men will get help that meets their personal preferences; often this is help that is easily accessible, engaging and meaningful. To read more of Ronny's story, head to the link below. 🔗 https://buff.ly/4e8nc9D #safmhblog #awareness #storytelling #mentalhealthawareness #BreakTheStigma #mentalhealthadvocacy #menandmentalhealth #suicideandmen

A lot of of us were raised to not talk about our problems. We weren’t supposed to let other people know our feelings. We were supposed to be seen and not heard. we were supposed to not seek help when we needed it. We were supposed to suck it up and push through. This is how the prevalence of the stigma of mental health was born. Today, I encourage you to use your voice and speak your truth. Be courageous. Courage speaks volumes where silence once reigned.
