Mentor-mentee relationships aren't just for your nonprofit members, it's also needed in the workplace! Most importantly, it's starts with you. When you decide to be that mentor to one of your team members, remember... 1. You are an accountability partner 2. You will have to take the first step 3. It's not about you 4. Listen, listen, listen 5. Mentoring isn't just about work, it's about life Is there anything missing from this list you'd like to add?

Some thoughts about the power of peer advocacy in Board dynamics. One of the most subtle yet powerful tools in nonprofit governance? Letting board members lead difficult conversations. When controversial issues arise, my approach is strategic: I step back and empower board members to carry these discussions forward. Here's why: * Board members receive peer perspectives differently than staff input * It preserves the CEO's political capital for when it's truly needed * It strengthens board ownership of challenging decisions * It builds deeper trust among board members The key is partnership, not absence. While I remain engaged in the conversation, I've learned that the messenger can be as important as the message. What's your experience with navigating challenging board discussions? How do you balance staff and board member voices? #NonprofitBoards #Leadership #BoardDevelopment #Governance #StrategicLeadership

When we took Decolonizing Management independent, we expanded the brief discussion of white supremacy's influence on the nonprofit sphere into a new module: Capitalism and Anti-Blackness. During the discussion period, NCC CEO Marina Martinez-Bateman (they/them) and their first cohort had a productive conversation on how orgs often expect marginalized people to act as mascots when they want to prove their DEI cred, then shut them down when their perspective as marginalized people leads them to suggest actions that are inconvenient to the organization. Check out this snippet on why equity committees don't work if the only goal is to have a meeting. Decolonizing Management is one of the few management training courses focused entirely on human-centered, anti-capitalist systems that is also taught by an experienced manager and mission-driven communicator. The 12-week course runs from August 6 - October 22 and the deadline to apply is Tuesday, July 30, so sign up now to be a part of a new way of doing good and doing business. https://lnkd.in/gaBAxzk7 #NonprofitManagement #NonprofitLeadership #ProfessionalDevelopment #leadershipdevelopment #managementtraining #antiracistleadership

🧭 Executive Assistant to the CEO at Outward Bound | 🏞 Passionate about empowering young people through Outdoor Education | 📝 A highly organised and solutions focussed strategic thinker
Some of my best friends are raising daughters. I've made it my personal mission to be the fun aunt who tries to get them muddy, or climbing trees, and at the very least we will hang out outdoors whenever we can. If 85% of adolescent girls aren't meeting daily activity requirements, where are they learning to fail and try again? To set themselves goals and then to smash through them? If one in six girls aren't getting into nature, where are they learning how beautiful our planet is, and how important it is to fix it (let alone all the mental benefits of wide open spaces and glorious fresh air)? If one in five girls think that adventure is for boys, what else are they holding back from? Adventures aren't just about expeditions - adventures are simply saying 'yes' to things that scare you a little bit. This week, The Outward Bound Trust launched the Her Adventure Fund, to help give more opportunities to women and girls to learn their potential, through experiences in the outdoors.
