Inclusive ideas for end of year celebrations Before I start listing ideas, let me just ask my HR colleagues…how inclusive is your end of year celebration? This a little lesson I learnt: At the end of the first year I headed an HR department, I was approached by a colleague about wanting to be excluded from the end of year party because it had been called a “Christmas Party”. The employee explained that for personal reasons, he didn’t celebrate Christmas. Lord knows that day was when I truly appreciated my gift of “quick thinking”. I immediately responded that going forward HR didn’t intend to have Christmas parties and the end of year celebrations were to congratulate everyone for a job well done. That conversation taught me to think carefully about the event planning part of HR (yes HR plans events). Not only did the HR team enjoy being creative with end of year events, but the end of year celebrations became the most epic, end it all event for employees and the turn out was always fantastic! So here goes some ideas : 1. Family picnic Indoor or outdoor family picnic for employees and their significant others or families. 2. Awards night Make it make fun! The awards don’t have to be focused only on performance at work but based on personalities. Some awards could be “ always on time” (for punctual employees).” “Eye of the storm” (for helpful employees), “sunbeams and hearts “ (for the most cheerful employee), “check and balances” for the employee who keeps projects on track, etc. 3. Themed parties Select themes from a particular era e.g. disco. And let employees who experienced that era guide everyone else on the dress code, dances and music. 4. Games day Just a simple fun day of games ranging from board games, video games to physical activities. Make some competitive and some just fun. 5. Food fair Let employees sample meals from various cultures, religions and dietary restrictions. You will be amazed how much everyone can learn from food . #employeeengagement #inclusionmatters #hrconsultant #hrdirector #hrbusinesspartner #funatwork #workandsmile #endofyear #rewardsandrecognition #workplaceculture #canada

🌟 Employee Appreciation Week Highlights 🌟 Last week, we turned the spotlight inward during our Employee Appreciation Week, not just to celebrate our team, but to shine a light on the individual stars that make our constellation truly remarkable. From heartfelt stories of collaboration to the quiet victories that often go unnoticed, our employees shared their moments of pride and strength. It was a week of high fives, virtual cheers, and shared smiles—a reminder of the incredible tapestry of talent and dedication that powers our company. 🙏 Bragging Rights: We asked our team members to share an instance where they felt proud to assist a colleague. The responses were overwhelming! Tales of support, mentorship, and going the extra mile filled our virtual halls, proving that every act of kindness contributes to our collective success. 🙏 Superheroes Unite! Every superhero has a unique power, and so does every member of our team. We encouraged everyone to share their "superpowers"—those special skills that help them excel in their role and support our mission. The result? A showcase of abilities that ranged from technical wizardry to empathetic leadership, each one a vital part of our success story. As we celebrate the value each person brings to our team and the exceptional service we provide to our customers, we're reminded that our strength lies in our diversity, our unity, and our willingness to uplift one another. To our team: Thank you for your commitment, your passion, and the vibrant energy you bring to work every day. You are the reason we continue to soar higher and achieve more. #EmployeeAppreciation #Teamwork #CelebratingSuccess #StrengthInUnity

National Coffee Day is a day dedicated to honoring one of the world's most beloved beverages, coffee. Celebrated annually on September 29th, it's a day to indulge in your favorite coffee drink and appreciate the rich history and cultural impact of this popular beverage. Recognizing diverse and fun holidays like National Coffee Day is important as it creates opportunities for connection and employee engagement. It allows employees to share their love for coffee, learn about different coffee cultures, and bond over shared experiences, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie in the workplace. To celebrate National Coffee Day at work, consider: Hosting a coffee tasting event with different blends from around the world. Organizing a barista workshop to learn how to make the perfect cup. Encouraging employees to share their favorite coffee recipes or coffee shops.

🗣 In a recent conversation, going 'back to the floor' initiatives came up, and we chatted about the various formats that this initiative can take, along with the benefits that they can bring to a business and its culture when done regularly 🤝 Gaining an understanding of what the front-line teams have to do to deliver the brand or proposition to the guest, profitably, is an obvious benefit for support teams, as is driving awareness, communication, and internal customer relationships of the support teams within the front-line teams 🍔 Further to this, the initiative can provide opportunities to share knowledge and experience, to learn and give feedback, to do reward and recognition, and to have fun, showing that you are human [job role/title aside]. I never once managed to beat any of the team in making any product quickly and to spec, and they loved the fact [that I tried] and that I couldn't either, giving way to ongoing banter and challenges! 🏑 I draw similar benefits from my volunteer work at Wakefield Junior Hockey Club, where I lead a team of volunteers to provide food and drink each weekend for the training hockey teams and for the Yorkshire Youth Hockey League out of the container pictured below - affectionately known as 'The Cabin' 🛖 Shifts vary between 4-8 hours, serving customers a range of breakfast, lunch, and snack items, along with hot and cold drinks, maintaining margins, driving transactions through speed of service and customer service, and lifting average spend through upsell 📈 It's a weekly reminder of the physical and mental skills [as a team member, and as a team] that are required to organically grow a business through transaction and spend channels 🎊 Over the past 2 seasons we have managed to grow the business, year on year, through both transaction and spend channels, providing much needed funds for encouraging Sport in the Community and Sport for All through the financing of outreach activities, outreach scholarships, team member reward and recognition and end of season celebrations 👩🎓 I often relate and reflect these weekly learnings into the day job, and whilst it commits a chunk of time each weekend to deliver, I just wouldn't be able to replace the benefits it gives me and the business I am in ❓️ How often do you get back to the floor, and how do you connect the benefits of these initiatives in your day-to-day work? #restaurants #hospitality #qsr #fastcasual #OpsEx #grabngo #foodtogo #operationsexcellence #operations #opentowork #operationsdirector #OperationsGuru #projectmanagement

Appreciation Day is a special occasion to celebrate the hard work and dedication of employees. It's like a warm ray of sunshine on a cold winter day, illuminating the path ahead and warming our hearts. Just as a flower blooms with care and nourishment, employees blossom when they feel valued and appreciated. Employee appreciation is not just about handing out bonuses or gifts. It's about acknowledging the effort and contribution of each individual, and making them feel like they are part of a family. It's about recognizing the small victories and the challenges overcome, and showing gratitude for the unique skills and talents each employee brings to the table. Appreciation Day is a reminder that every employee is a vital cog in the wheel of success. It's a day to reflect on the journey we've taken together, and to look forward to the brighter future ahead. Let's cherish this day, and make it a regular occurrence, because every day should be a day of appreciation for our dedicated employees.
