Clinical trials play an important part in helping to find out if new medicines are safe and effective. Yet a lack of awareness and feelings of hesitancy about joining one persist. Hear from a former clinical trial participant and a doctor who share why they think it’s important for others to consider participation.

Do you have a patient with a serious or immediately life-threatening disease or condition? Expanded access, sometimes called compassionate use, is a potential pathway for a patient with a serious or immediately life-threatening disease or condition to try an investigational medical product for treatment outside of clinical trials when there are no comparable or satisfactory therapies available. Where would patients be without clinical trials?  What better day than today—International Clinical Trials Day—to ponder that important question.  “Clinical trials make it possible for patients to get access to new medications faster.” says Nina Wegge. “And it’s my job to help make sure they get started as quickly as possible.” Clinical trials play a crucial role in advancing healthcare for patients in Belgium and globally by evaluating new treatments and improving existing ones. They offer patients access to life-changing therapies and medical innovations that can potentially enhance their quality of life, make a difference for the time they can spend with their loved ones and extend survival rates.
