In 2023, the Arizona Psychiatric Society sponsored SB1810 to tackle the challenges of behavioral health integration in primary care settings. This bill was passed and amended into SB1726, allocating $1,000,000 from the State general fund for fiscal year 2023-2024 to the Collaborative Care Uptake Fund Program. This program aims to encourage and support primary care providers and technical assistance centers in implementing the Collaborative Care Model (CoCM), an evidence-based practice for integration. We want to recognize the crucial role of Erik Osland from evolvedMD in the success of this legislative effort and grant. To address the mental health crisis, collaboration is key. The Collaborative Care Model is a powerful example of how integrated healthcare can effectively support mental health in Arizona and serve as a model for others. #BehavioralHealth #PrimaryCare #CollaborativeCare #HealthcareIntegration #mentalhealthmatters #HealthcareFunding

Much has been written about provider burnout during the pandemic. In this recent paper in OFID, my colleagues and I specifically write about burnout in providers caring for patients with Long COVID and fatiguing illnesses. Community is so important in preventing burnout and this is where Project ECHO can play such a critical role. So glad to be part of this one! If you are interested in learning more, we have a monthly national webinar on second Thursday of the month. Message me to learn more! https://lnkd.in/gkMYHSwS

Real Estate & Health Security Entrepreneur and Investor: Founder and President of MerkeleyVentures (Formerly BARDA HHS: Co-Founder of CARB-X & DRIVe)
Excited to share a blog Kathryn Merkeley published today: “Implementing Trauma-Informed Care (TIC): A Tool to Prevent Violence in Healthcare.” This piece provides essential tools and insights for Healthcare Organizations aiming to prioritize safety and empathy. Through a comprehensive look at integrating TIC principles within healthcare environments, Katy’s work illuminates a path towards reducing violence and fostering a supportive atmosphere for patients and healthcare workers alike. Drawing from her own extensive frontline clinical experience and more recent work in Patient Safety and Performance Improvement, the article is a great read for leaders dedicated to building a culture of safety and respect. It’s fascinating to see how TIC principles can extend beyond healthcare—reflecting on my own experiences in government, public health, and disaster response, the relevance is strong. Well done, Katy! A must-read for anyone committed to making healthcare, public health —and beyond—a safer, more empathetic place. #HealthcareSafety #TraumaInformedCare #HealthcareLeadership https://lnkd.in/gs4PGFfU
