If you are a recent engineering graduate in the UK or anywhere, your best bet of getting a job quickly is through the graduate route or entry level jobs regardless of your previous experience in your home country. Hiring companies usually test more for people skills than technical skills. If you are a current postgraduate student, try applying for placements or internships before the end of your study. These placements would enhance your CV, give your job search a big boost and make you more noticeable. You can also get retained by the company if you do very well. Some placements can be done during school breaks with minimal impacts on your study time. You also need to draft a good CV and an unsolicited cover letter. One very good site or app to search for STEM graduate jobs and placements is Gradcracker. Although Gradcracker focuses mostly on STEM jobs, other types of job roles are also available.

1.) Right now, there are very few IT jobs being offered directly from college campuses, and it's the lowest it's been in 20 years. 2.) Companies providing software services might only hire about 70,000 to 80,000 new graduates by the end of the financial year 2024, out of a total of 1.5 million engineering graduates. 3.) Comparatively, in the previous financial year, about 250,000 fresh graduates were hired, and in the year before that, it was around 600,000. 4.) 🙌By 2024, 45 percent of US companies seek to eliminate bachelor's degree requirements for certain occupations 🇺🇸When examining job candidate applications, 80% of 800 firms said they were "very likely" or "likely" to emphasize work experience above education. Furthermore, 81% feel that recent college graduates must gain work experience. 🌟 A Personal Reflection on Degree Requirements 🌟 During my job search, I came across a job posting that really made me stop and think. It specified that candidates should have an undergraduate degree from a “top-tier” school or a graduate degree from a top-tier institution. 🤔 I didn’t apply, not because I lack experience or skills, but because none of my degrees are from a top-tier school. It got me wondering: how many talented individuals might be discouraged from applying because of such requirements? Here’s why this matters: 1. Excludes Qualified Talent: Many skilled professionals come from diverse educational backgrounds and might not have attended a top-tier school but bring invaluable experience and skills. 🚀 2. Perpetuates Elitism: Emphasizing the prestige of educational institutions can favor those from privileged backgrounds, potentially overlooking diverse talent from less traditional paths. 🌍 3. Undervalues Practical Experience: Skills and real-world experience often outweigh the name of a university on a resume. 💪 I believe it’s time we shift our focus to competencies and experience rather than just the prestige of educational institutions. Microsoft came on campus and shortlisted 46 students for the interview after online test and resume shortlisting. In round one, most were eliminated and only 17 went to the round 2, finally after this there were only 2 final selections that to one from Electrical Engineering and another from Electronics and Communications Engineering. I was talking to a student from my college this morning and she was upset with how this happened as her interview was on point answeringa ll the questions correctly and she was expecting a selection but things always don’t go the way we want. You would feel you were not lucky, which is the case 50% but it depends on these factors : - Hiring numbers for the company were low and they couldn’t hire more than 2. - The interviewer you got was kind of different and had a strict marking as compared to rest. - Although you felt everything was good, but the way you present your work and answers matter even more. That might not be your day? Stop blaming yourself or considering yourself as unlucky. Things will change, it takes time and this is just the start. Wishing you the best for this placement season. Don’t go for a job just after your bachelors. This is what I heard from most of the people around me. Doing a job after a masters is considered good. But going for a job just after graduation is still considered a bad decision. Watch this : https://lnkd.in/gpk8Qcwa Three years after my undergrad degree and almost two years of working in corporate. I can finally say that there is no bad or good decision. It is your own choice. Society has its own terms, and I am glad that I will never be a part of it. Working in corporate would give you real-time exposure that a masters degree would never have. Having work experience before your masters is worth it.
