After much reflection, I’m excited to announce that I’ve stepped into the role of Chief Revenue Officer at ElasticHotel —a company positioned to transform the hospitality industry through innovative, customer-centric solutions focused on revenue management. 2024 seems to have started with a flurry of high-profile openings, including 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 J D Wetherspoon on the corner of Eversholt Street and Doric Way near London Euston. It’s always fascinating to see the impact of new openings, including the profile of customers that they attract and to what extent there are winners and losers in each local area. We’ve taken a look at the performance of The Captain Flinders since opening with 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝟯 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 using our 𝗦𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮, 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝘀, 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝟬.𝟱-𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘂𝘀. Here’s a few headlines from our data: 🏢 𝟱𝘁𝗵 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲– already it’s established itself as the 5th largest venue in the local area from a market share perspective, with a 7.0% share of the Top 20 venues locally 👴 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿-𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝘅 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽𝘀 – 41% of its sales are from customers aged 55+, a significant over-index versus its local competitors 👛 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗹 𝗩𝗮𝘂𝗹𝘁 – interestingly it’s the J D Wetherspoon at St Pancras International which is seeing the biggest Share of Wallet losses amongst customers of The Captain Flinders, suggesting that loyal J D Wetherspoon customers may be opting for a more convenient option when traveling from London Euston. 45% of its spend is coming from customers who live more than 50 miles away, which is also a big over-index versus its local competitors.
