Oil and Gas Company are mindful of their corporate social responsibilities where decommission of their facilities towards the end of the asset life are necessary. Some assets can even be carefully dismantled for resale or reinstallation elsewhere. Decommissioning of offshore structures are largely uncharted area of operations for many organizations even for experience offshore installation contractors. And NO, for many it is far from a simple offshore construction task. Extensive engineering is needed on decommissioning projects requiring a large pool of multi-engineering disciplines resources. It is one of those projects which requires meticulous engineering, planning, ensuring all unknown information are cross-checked and experienced skill set to ensure projects are carried out safely, cost-effectively, and with maximum regard for the environment. A “Fit for Purpose” engineering approach may not be feasible by designing a larger safety factor into decommissioning of offshore structures. The safety factor which was used in the initial design are no longer available due to additional loads added or corrosion with lost in wall thickness leading to reduction in structural integrity. The collaboration and working with specialist toolings service providers, on site testing enables each decommissioning solution to be selected for each of the engineered solution. It should not be seen merely as an extension of routine operations or a reversal of installation and construction, nor should it be expedited just to achieve a quicker exit. Managing risk is often one of the initial safety challenges to address for all stakeholders involved on decommissioning project. Many times, economic pressures might tempt some companies to cut corners. Yet, budget constraints do not diminish the seriousness of the risks involved or allow for the neglect of Health, Safety and Environmental obligations. With a team of experienced decommissioning specialists, oil and gas operators, contractors can make informed, safe, and environmentally responsible decisions when it comes to decommissioning project. #offshoreconstruction #offshore #subsea #subseaengineering #oilandgas #offshore #offshoreenergy #offshoreengineering #offshoreservices #pipelineconstruction #oilandgasjobs #marineconstruction #decommissioning

Is reliable performance possible throughout Life-of-Field for Subsea Systems and Equipment? In today’s high-risk projects where equipment availability and environmental protection is paramount, there is no room for failure. Oil giants acknowledge that nowhere are the challenges greater than in subsea applications. As offshore operations are moving into more remote locations and ‘deeper waters at an increasing pace’ where increasing temperatures and technological complexities culminate in financial pressures, subsea production systems and products ought to be optimized for ultra-reliable performance throughout life-of-field. Working closely with clients to monitor progress, we will continually find new ways to increasing the quality and reliability of their products. The Oil & Gas industry is driven by specific and practical industry requirements. Top among these requirements is Quality and Reliability. Product designs carefully advance with proven technologies, rigorous testing and qualification processes. All these are geared towards getting better and faster ways of continually increasing the efficiency, reliability, availability and performance of the subsea products. - Innocent K. Ikpe, Engr.

An offshore engineer's toolbox includes five main approaches to assessing an existing offshore tubular structure. Each method is chosen according to the site's specific needs: environmental conditions, costs, offshore support, time constraints, post-op inspections, service life, class requirements, and so on. Here is a brief description of the five main methods of reinstating the joints in a typical oil and gas offshore tubular structure. Comment below if you have any preference for a specific method, and why? #OffshoreEngineering #OilandGas #OffshoreEnergy

What offshore construction is? Offshore construction covers a wide spectrum of facilities built away from the shore. Thanks to these structures, the production of valuable resources such as oil, electricity and gas is possible. The transmission or transportation of these resources onshore is part of the whole process, as well. The form of an offshore structure varies depending on the resources that is designed to produce and transmit. For instance, wind farms have a totally different shape and way of function than oil platforms. In that sense, they have different benefits and points of concern As far as the building procedure of the platforms is concerned, the most common practice is the manufacturing of the whole structure onshore. This solution simplifies the construction process and facilitates the people working on the project due to the easier transportation of both the materials and the equipment. However, there also are cases where the construction process takes place in the open sea. Special vessels that allow the completion of the project are used in such occasions.
