One thing I love most about the fire service is the connections it has provided me with to an amazing group of people. Michael Taylor of the Dixie Firemanship group is one those people. We have had some great conversations and I am sure more to come. Another quote I pull from the same conversation this one came from is "they have to be likable and have that spark in their eye, or people will just ignore them." We where talking about instructors we both have had the privilege of reciving training from and ones we hope to learn from in the future and what really makes some stand out. It is the ones that are truly passionate about the subject, completely invested in it for all the RIGHT reasons. They aren't in it to pad the bank on the days off, or to become some big famous instructor. Some my best learning was from instructors who never been on any big stage, not because they couldn't, but simply because they never asked to be or wanted to be. They wanted to make their department and near by departments better, that was their mission. They were fine knowing that they were helping that mission, they didn't need anything else. You can fake and hand shake your way so far but in the end people will see straight through it and there's a good chance you have done more harm then good. Love your job, pass on what you have learned from others and your own experiences. Knowledge isn't to be held hostage to make you feel better then others or put you on a pedastool. Remember it is about THEM and how we can do our job better everyday and leave the job better so those after us can continue to serve better then we did.

A high school student aspiring to be a Firefighter and EMT | Committed to Community and Emergency Response.
One crucial skill we learn in fire science is turnout procedures. We practice them through turnout drills, aiming to gear up in under 2 minutes. Edwin and I recently raced each other in this drill. Edwin is on left and I’m on the right. Amy Olsen Melissa Goble #jordanacademytechnologycareers #cteinternships

We have sterling achievements at the workplace, impressive KPIs and are undoubtedly confident of our leadership capabilities. But are we confident of performing life-saving aid as a bystander? Studies have shown that bystander CPR increases survival rates by two to three times, and bystander first aid are crucial in accidents. Am glad I took the full course with #Singaporeredcross. This certification is not for the resume, it is a meaningful skill because maybe all a person has is less than 60 seconds. #learningneverends

Ethical communicator who has an unusual attraction to crises, disasters and systems-based communicating.
I'm no fan of firefighter awards. Actually I hate them, as firefighting can only be successful as a team. The best recognition in firefighting comes by getting home safe, or by giving firefighters a needed piece of equipment. Singling out individuals among thousands does no good to improve the service. The efforts that go into awards by leaders should be spent on building their culture and teamwork, value-added activities such as training, safety and quality. As a solution, I'd recommend awards for FireSmart communities which recognize small to large groups who have made their communities safer - think FireSmart in Bloom. Another for innovators who have created something to make FireSmart or firefighting tasks more efficient. And team safety/quality awards (multiple) for firefighter crews who have demonstrated safety combined with quality. Those will highlight improvements others can be inspired to do themselves as teams or communities. That's how you fight fires.
Nominations are open! Know someone that’s making a difference? Here’s a great opportunity to recognize them.

November 26, 2023 holds special significance in the world of GDA, as it marks the death anniversary of our Late Managing Director, Mr. Vivek Kumar. As a tribute to his legacy, we conducted an extensive training program for our assignment officers, field officers and managers. Covering basic drill parade training, with detailed guidance on roles and responsibilities, this session aimed to elevate their proficiency. Here were a few key benefits of the training program: 1. Accuracy: Empowering individuals to execute tasks with accuracy, minimising errors 2. Speed of Action: Elevating work pace without compromising on quality, by standardised routines 3. Overcoming Difficulties: Equipping them to confidently tackle challenges at work 4. Progress: Acknowledging individual progress based on performance 5. Interest: Fostering interest and dedication towards work through regular training With this initiative, we strengthen our commitment to continuously improve and ensure that our team is aiming for success! #Throwback #GDATraining #TrainingProgram
