Today is the last day of Ramadan 2024. I want to share a final thought. "How will they know, unless you tell them?" Some of you know how deep Ramadan is, but why don't they—the public— know? We live in silos. Not knowing about one another leads to other issues. Similarly, I've found Ramadan to largely be just a definition or a ceremonial public event, but devoid of its spiritual depth. So I started an online Ramadan storytelling initiative last year to break the silence on Ramadan. A story that I've received last year (below) has come back to life! And that's the power of our stories. I promise they will give you a newfound appreciation for Ramadan. Lessons I noted: 1. Stories have a long life (written last year) 2. Stories transcend time (affecting the present) 3. Stories educate (newfound appreciation for Ramadan, nuance!) 4. Stories create more connections (using this knowledge forward) If you believe in this, note: 1. Don't ignore this. You are a changemaker. 2. Read/share our stories. Transformative change can happen.

At the start of the year, almost half of the third graders (43%) started the year with kindergarten-level phonics skills (3+ years below). At the end of the year 66% of 3rd graders had advanced one grade level or more. #structuredliteracy #reading #95percentgroup

Noble Street, LEARN Charter, and other HIGH QUALITY Charter Schools have changed the trajectory of tens of thousands of black and brown students. We need their voice as they come home from Ivy League schools, Big 10 schools, and other elite collegiate options that would have been wholly unattainable in some of the poor performing neighborhood schools. Compare Nobles ACT scores and list of college acceptances to neighborhood non selective schools (think Schurz, Farragut, etc not Whitney Young, Lane Tech, etc).
