Meet Jordi A., a 4th-year PhD student in Computer Science at the University of Edinburgh. This summer, he joined Meta's Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) team as a Research Scientist Intern. "I'm working on large language models and code generation. I'm still astounded by the massive number of GPUs and the level of the research collaborators I have access to at Meta," Jordi explained. "I'm investigating how to get AI models to have a better understanding of code by using information obtained when executing programs." Jordi was drawn to Meta because of FAIR's groundbreaking open science and ambitious plans for Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). "I'm so excited to be part of a lab working on the frontiers of AI research," he said. The best advice he received this summer? "Make sure you meet all the relevant people — there's always something to learn from other's work. It's easier to limit yourself to your immediate peers but going the extra mile to meet researchers and interns from other teams or locations has been totally worth it." After completing his internship, Jordi plans to finish his PhD and continue researching AI for code generation. Our latest featured “I am the iSchool” student is Zhuohao (Jerry) Zhang! Jerry is a Ph.D. student with a focus on human-computer interaction (#HCI) and accessibility research. He is the recipient of the Apple Scholars in AI/ML Ph.D. fellowship, and he has completed research internships with Adobe, Microsoft and Meta.   “In this era of rapid AI development, it is crucial to take a step back and reflect on the implications of AI, particularly for those historically underrepresented in the vast corpus of internet content,” Jerry says. “The information field excites me because it emphasizes the importance of focusing on areas that the majority may overlook, ensuring that the benefits of AI and technology are inclusive and equitable for all.”   Thanks, Jerry, for speaking with us! Using state-of-the-art deep learning techniques, my model is designed to identify and classify objects within images with promising initial results. 📊 Key Features: Initial Accuracy : Achieved notable accuracy with just a few epochs of training. Potential for Improvement : With additional epochs and fine-tuning, the model's performance can be significantly enhanced.
