#The Kite & String relationship in Leadership: The kite symbolizes the leader’s vision, creativity, and aspirations. It is the driving force behind the organization or team’s direction. A good leader must be able to inspire and motivate their team by setting ambitious goals and painting a clear picture of the desired future state. The string represents the leader’s control, guidance, and connection to the team. It is the practical aspect of leadership, which includes setting expectations, providing resources, monitoring progress, and being able to execute on the vision. A leader must ensure that the team remains grounded in reality, and that they are on track to achieve their goals. The string also represents the leader’s ability to create stability and security in times of uncertainty.

Join us to read and discuss “Dare to Lead” by Brené Brown in Q3. When we dare to lead, we don’t pretend to have the right answers; we stay curious and ask the right questions. We don’t see power as finite and hoard it; we know that power becomes infinite when we share it with others. We don’t avoid difficult conversations and situations; we lean into vulnerability when it’s necessary to do good work. Four-time #1 New York Times bestselling author Brené Brown has spent the past two decades studying the emotions and experiences that give meaning to our lives, and the past seven years working with transformative leaders and teams spanning the globe. She found that leaders in organizations all ask the same question: How do you cultivate braver, more daring leaders, and how do you embed the value of courage in your culture? In Dare to Lead, Brown uses research, stories, and examples to answer this question. This book is for anyone who wants to step up and into brave leadership. I’ve posted a lot about leadership in the last few years and for me personally, our new Deputy PM is the type of leader we need to see more of in business. Most people know her back story but what I think stands out about her is her personality; inspirational, charismatic, believable, funny and not afraid to say it how it is. Such a simple but effective combination. How many people leaders could take a leaf out of Angela Rayner’s book?

To anyone looking for practical wisdom to handle life’s challenges. Stoicism has been a key part of my own journey, helping me navigate uncertainty that comes with running a business. Along the way, I discovered Alejandro Entredicho Jr., CPSL®, AIRS®–ECRE and his insightful newsletter, Stoic Boardroom. Alejandro’s latest newsletter dives into how Marcus Aurelius led through chaos during the Antonine Plague. His teachings on emotional balance, clear decision-making, and leading with purpose are incredibly relevant today. One powerful takeaway from Alejandro’s most recent newsletter is how Marcus Aurelius’ leadership wasn’t about controlling circumstances, but about controlling his response to those circumstances. Alejandro shares how this mindset can help leaders today manage everything from business challenges to personal challenges. If you’re interested in applying Stoic principles to your leadership style, Alejandro’s newsletter is a must-read. Link in the comments
