We're excited to be hosting the upcoming webinar for Methane Guiding Principles: “What are the main emissions? Insights from recent remote sensing studies into the top sources of methane emissions from the oil and gas industry”. Taking place on Thursday 30 April at 14:00 CET, this webinar features three industry-leading remote sensing experts who have been involved in recent studies: ◾ Daniel Cusworth, Project Scientist for Carbon Mapper ◾ Evan Sherwin, Research Scientist for Berkeley Lab ◾ Damon Burtt, Climate Change Consultant for Carbon Limits AS They will be sharing what the major sources are that they have witnessed, what was expected, and what was surprising. While methane has a shorts lifetime than carbon dioxide, it is much more efficient at trapping radiation. Methane is responsible for about a third of the planetary warming we see today. MethaneSat was launched this month! The satellite will locate and quantify methane emissions from oil and gas operations and make this information available to the public. Remote sensing technologies are being increasingly harnessed to monitor and quantify greenhouse gas emissions. This is occurring in parallel with regulatory developments aimed at quantifying and reducing these emissions.
