  • Mist is a free tool designed to assist oil and gas operators globally in developing their methane emissions inventory. Mist leverages the latest research to aid with the set-up of methane mitigation inventories and help with mitigation prioritization. Developed under the Methane Guiding Principles by Carbon Limits AS, the Mist tool incorporates years of technical knowledge, to support companies in improving their understanding, reporting and mitigation of methane. 📊 With its simple to use interface and dynamic dashboards, Mist helps users track methane emissions and view their abatement potential in a clear and concise way. The benefits of using Mist: · Easy to use – it takes very little input to get started and create emission inventories, which can be improved over time. · Compatible with OGMP 2.0 – it uses international best practices and aligns with OGMP level 3 and 4 reporting. · Tracks multiple facilities – it allows accurate tracking of emissions from multiple facilities, rather than just the whole organization. · Confidentiality – all data is encrypted and backed up. • Collaboration is key to effective and sustained action on methane emissions. Here at Methane Guiding Principles, we have created a playbook and other resources to help companies and their joint venture (JV) partners on their methane reduction roadmaps. 📖 The playbook for non-operated JVs (NOVJs) offers strategies to engage partners who may not recognize the urgency of methane reduction, are unsure how to act, or resist change. It is divided into four sections: 1. A summary of the links between climate change, the oil and gas industry and methane emissions and why influencing NOJVs is important 2. How to address the reasons NOJVs give for not reducing methane emissions. 3. What, who, how and where to influence. 4. Tips and tactics for influencing partners. The playbook is accompanied by three templates to help set up initiatives within a joint venture to reduce methane emissions. These contain technical definitions, explanations of rights and duties of partners. Visit our Joint Ventures page for access to the playbook and additional resources. https://lnkd.in/eMaYEivq #methaneguidingprinciples #jointventures #resources

  • At Methane Guiding Principles, one of the commitments made by our member organizations is to report on the progress made and steps being taken to reduce methane emissions. Therefore, on an annual basis, each member reports on key methane metrics, outlining how they are working to fulfil each of the five individual Methane Guiding Principles: 1.       Continually reduce methane emissions 2.       Advance strong performance across the gas supply chain 3.       Improve accuracy of methane emissions data 4.       Advocate sound policy and regulations on methane emissions 5.       Increase transparency Find out more about each member's work and explore their progress in reducing methane emissions by visiting the Member Report web page - https://bit.ly/3YCxNo4 📊 #methanemitigation #memberreports #annualreports

  • Exciting news! We are pleased to announce the launch of the latest versions of our popular Best Practice series 🌟 These guides are designed to assist operators in making significant improvements in managing methane emissions throughout the natural gas supply chain. The topics covered in these publications include flaring, equipment leaks, venting, pneumatic devices, and operational repairs. Capturing a wealth of knowledge and insights from MGP members, the Best Practice Guides provide a summary of current known mitigations and available technologies.📚 Chris Rathbun, Program Manager of Methane Guiding Principles commented on the launch of the guides “The focus on methane detection and quantification in the oil and gas industry is more important than ever. Technological advancements in the past two decades have been game-changers, and the progress continues. By ensuring that everyone has access to the latest technology and knowledge as featured in these guides, we can reach our methane reduction goals faster.” Check out the updated Best Practice Guides 💡 at https://lnkd.in/dadWMkB3 #BestPracticeGuides #methaneemissions #MethaneGuidingPrinciples

Methane Guiding Principles was out in force at the Methane Mitigation Summit Series earlier this month in Austin, Texas. Chris Rathbun’s panel on developing a strategy to reduce methane emissions in non-operated joint ventures drove home the message that collaboration is critical for overall global methane reduction. This lesson came up again and again throughout the conference and reinforced the need for platforms like MGP to convene diverse stakeholders in this effort.🤝 The summit’s halls teemed with other big ideas and impactful organizations: 🛰️ Improvements in detection and measurement techniques—from drones to aircraft to satellites, including via innovators like GHGSAT—will provide enhanced transparency over emissions. Everyone is getting on the bandwagon to bridge major gaps in verification. ✅ The global push to improve measurement and reporting is accelerating as regulation ramps up, particularly in Europe. When it comes to regulation, organizations need to stay ahead of the curve, rather than scrambling to react to every new rule. It’s therefore great to see operators converge on UNEP's OGMP 2.0 as the North Star for reporting. The “gold standard” of L5 reporting will spread as companies up their game. ☠️ Methane leaks are not just an emissions issue—human health and safety are also at risk. It was great to hear this point hammered home by Seth Long, CEO of Shepherd Safety Systems, LLC in his insightful talk. 💸 Investment in methane mitigation is rising amid a landscape of increasing activity, particularly on the technological front. This was the message of an illuminating discussion featuring MGP supporting organization Climate Investment (CI). All in all, it was a fruitful two days of panels, meetings and networking. We look forward to seeing everyone in Austin again next year! Let us know your top takeaways in the comments. 💬 #methaneemissions #methane
