As part of our current project, we've prioritized contractor supervision onsite. To enhance safety measures, we introduced an online pre-induction, a suggestion from one of our deliverables providers. Since July 01, we've implemented a pre-induction with a brief map viewing and site tour, showcasing facility locations and emergency assembly points. The results have been overwhelmingly positive and saved a lot of valuable time. If you're considering a similar effective contractor management solution for your business, feel free to reach out. #SafetyFirst #ContractorManagement #EfficiencySolution #methodologyman

Effective communication starts with setting clear expectations. #Subcontractors must understand safety protocols, project-specific guidelines, and their role in maintaining a safe work environment. Regular safety briefings and #toolbox talks are essential for conveying this information. #ConstructionSafetyWeek reminds us that safety is not only an individual effort—it’s a collective commitment. By communicating effectively with subcontractors, we create a safer work environment, prevent accidents, and protect lives. Let’s build together, safely!

𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 🗣 Effective communication is paramount during critical safety activities, such as shift handovers, plant maintenance, and shutdowns. This communication should involve field operators, control room staff, key personnel (both outgoing and incoming), and all relevant parties. A 2014 analysis identified deficiencies in shift handover and Permit to Work (PTW) systems as prevalent root causes of incidents. Furthermore, these shortcomings have been linked to major accidents, such as the Piper Alpha disaster. ❓𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐈𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: - Failure to properly prepare for handover briefings can lead to incomplete information exchange by outgoing personnel. - A lack of thorough exchange of critical information between outgoing and incoming personnel creates knowledge gaps and potential safety hazards. - The absence of a system for cross-checking information during handovers can lead to misunderstandings and omissions. - Personnel tasked with issuing and overseeing critical communications may lack the necessary competencies to ensure effectiveness. - Work schedules that are overly demanding or poorly planned can compromise communication effectiveness due to time constraints or fatigue. 🥅 𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: - Management should regularly review and update communication channels to account for changes in plant layout, organizational structure, or technology. - Establish a well-defined structure for shift handover arrangements, ensuring a consistent and thorough exchange of information. - Develop and implement strategies to ensure accurate and reliable communication of safety-critical information during handovers and other critical activities. - Establish clear and accessible routes for personnel to raise safety concerns without fear of reprisal. 📌 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬: - Verify that safety-related information is comprehensively addressed during shift handovers. - Ensure the Permit to Work system facilitates the smooth communication of safety-critical information, such as findings from risk assessments to personnel performing the tasks. - Confirm that safety-related communication is effectively managed during the isolation and reinstatement of plant operations. - Evaluate the effectiveness of toolbox talks in promoting safety awareness and communication. - Ensure timely and clear communication of plant changes, particularly those with safety implications. #EffectiveCommunication #SafetyCulture #LearningFromExperience #IndustrialSafety #WorkplaceSafety #humanresilience Human Resilience Associates Danaraj Chandrasegaran Ts. The Power of Real-Time Safety Intervention In the world of construction and contracting, keeping everyone safe is our top priority. We follow a hierarchy of safety measures to manage risks: Elimination, Substitution, Engineering Controls, Administrative Controls, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Among these, Administrative Controls, like training and real-time intervention, play a key role. Picture this: a worker is about to do something unsafe. A trained colleague sees this and immediately stops them. This on-the-spot intervention is incredibly powerful and often life-saving. Here’s why real-time intervention is so important: 1. It addresses dangers as they happen, preventing accidents right away. 2. Having experienced staff who can recognize and stop unsafe actions adds a personal layer of protection that machines or pre-planned measures can't provide. 3. Work environments change, and new risks can appear unexpectedly. Real-time intervention lets us adapt and address these new dangers immediately. 4. Training empowers employees to act quickly and confidently when they see something unsafe, making safety a shared responsibility. 5. Knowing that colleagues are watching out for each other creates a culture where safety is a core value. At our organization, we emphasize this approach. Our teams are trained and empowered to step in whenever they see unsafe activities. This commitment to real-time safety intervention shows how much we value our employees' well-being and the integrity of our operations. #SafetyFirst #WorkplaceSafety #RealTimeIntervention #SafetyCulture #EmployeeEmpowerment

When was the last time you reviewed and updated your project safety documents? Now is a good time to look at your templates to see what might need to be improved, updated and changed. This could include: 1. IIPP 2. EAP 3. Site safety plans 4. Emergency contacts 5. Supplemental safety information for foreman 6. Injury response procedures I recommended looking at your documents at least annually and adjusting accordingly. Clients and customers are asking for more documentation and focusing on these documents on the front end before mobilizing to a project is key. Frontline personnel need the information to be successful. #safetyfirst #safetydocumentation
