My friends with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorders) are amazing people, but they suffer so much discrimination in the job market because of other peoples’ perception of them (even if it is completely inaccurate). I have heard it all; they are too direct, they are inflexible, they are a know-it-all, they are arrogant, they get too worked up, they don’t get along with us, they don’t like us…. All of this is perception based and that is EXACTLY the problem. That person with ASD is still just that. A PERSON. They are not too direct. Our culture speaks with so much subtext and body language that any message could be misconstrued, miscommunicated, and misunderstood. Just say what you mean! They are not a know-it-all or arrogant. If they are knowledgeable about a topic (or many topics) it’s because that topic may be their special interests. They could have done a lot of research and weighed all possibilities. If they are wrong, they are usually open and available to discussion with sources. They are not inflexible. Everyone would work better with a set schedule and firm expectations. They are open to shifts in the plans, but it can be overwhelming in the moment. Sometimes they just need a second to wrap their head around the change. They don’t know that they don’t fit in or that you think they don’t like you. Typically, if they haven’t said that they don’t like you, you’re probably fine. This goes in line with directness. People assume intent behind their diction because of culture. Just try to take what they say at face value. To my friends with ASD, you are so valuable and worth every second of effort that it takes to be a part of your life. You have shown me so many of my own difficiencies and worked with me to correct them. I now know how to clearly and effectively communicate my expectations and even boundaries. Thank you.

🌟 Transforming Lives Through ABA: It’s About More Than the Bottom Line 🌟 The ABA industry is here to change lives by fostering wider access to care and supporting the unique needs of each child. The best ABA agencies prioritize the child's best interests in every decision they make. This means individualized, compassionate care that goes beyond just the numbers. At its core, ABA is about empowering individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities to reach their fullest potential. The focus is not just on achieving milestones but on enhancing quality of life, building meaningful skills, and supporting families in their journey. The most impactful agencies lead with integrity and commitment, ensuring that every intervention, every session, and every interaction is driven by what will truly benefit the child. It’s not about fitting children into a program; it’s about tailoring the program to fit the child. When we prioritize people over profits, everyone benefits—children, families, and the community. Let’s continue to raise the bar and set the standard for excellence in care. 💙 #ABA #AutismSupport #ChildFirst #CareWithIntegrity #ABATherapy #MakingADifference
