#DeskDiaries #2 Appreciate your team freely & often. Reflecting on my journey as an Account Manager, I recall the early days when I led a diverse team of 15+ individuals across various departments. I focused on tracking errors and promoting the idea of making the fewest mistakes. I monitored issues like missed deadlines and email errors, aiming to foster competition in error reduction. I introduced a points system for mistakes – if A made 2 errors and B made 5, they received corresponding points. The intention was fewer points. Sadly, this approach backfired, resulting in negativity and excessive caution to prevent mistakes. Then, I transitioned to a different approach. I implemented a star system, enabling every team member to give stars to colleagues, regardless of their experience level, fostering a culture of appreciation from interns to veterans. I also started conducting monthly reviews where I recognized and rewarded the top performer in front of the entire team. This shift in approach ignited a transformation within the team. Team members began striving not only to excel for clients but also to support one another seamlessly across departments. A culture of mutual assistance and shared success emerged, enhancing our overall teamwork and outcomes. #BehindtheOffice

Way back when I first started working I worked for a company that to become a manager the employee first had to spend a couple of days to a couple of weeks in all the different functions that theirs touched. This led to a better understanding of their function and what to expect and what the other areas needed. Since I started in Customer Success one of the biggest topics has been friction between CS and Sales, or Product, or other areas. I think a lot would be resolved if we had a cross-functional shadowing time as part of onboarding / promotions. I think this would lead to an improvement in communication, aligned goals and clearer distribution of responsibilities. What do you think? Have any of you seen something like this?

Ever shadowed your customer team? If you have, you'll know how transformative it is. It's amazing how many insights and ideas you can get from just spending an hour or two observing what's really going on in your organisation. Shadowing is also one of those things that you never get around to doing. It can be SO HARD to make yourself do the 'Important but not Urgent' stuff, even when you know how useful it is. Today, I am going to share my experience dealing with a client who was resisting change, and how I and my team navigated this set-back. The week before this was hectic, but I'm glad we are conquering all the challenges step by step. Now, back to the challenge. As a Customer Success/Support Specialist, one of my key clients who is a large corporate customer, that has been using our services for several years was highly resistant to the decision of our company to implement a new software platform. This Platform will enhance service delivery, but the client was highly resistant to the change. They were comfortable with the existing system and feared that the new platform would disrupt their operations. The client expressed some concerns which included potential downtime during the transition and the learning curve for their team. I knew the best way forward, was to schedule a face-to-face meeting with the client to understand their concerns and assure them that I was readily available to help them successfully transition to the new platform. I went ahead to provide a detailed explanation of the benefits of the new software platform, demonstrated how the new system's user-friendly interface could streamline their operations and reduce manual work, showing side-by-side comparisons of old and new workflows. At this point, I noticed the stress line on my client's face reducing. 🙂 During the demonstration, I showcased a feature that automated a task their team spent hours on each week, significantly reducing their workload. We then agreed on a phased implementation approach, allowing the client to transition gradually over two months. This included training sessions for their staff and dedicated support during peak hours.  After the first phase of implementation, we will be conducting weekly check-ins to address any issues and gather feedback, to ensure a smooth transition.  The objective for me at all times, is to build the client’s trust in our company and guarantee customer satisfaction. I also believe, we strengthened our relationship as we demonstrated our commitment to their success and satisfaction. #Midweekmusings

If you aren’t so lucky, find one yourself as it can make the process a lot smoother for you. ❔ Every day: Don’t be afraid to ask questions As much as you want to appear capable and confident to prove your value, don’t be afraid to ask questions. This is key, especially when you’re new to the team.

Today marks my 3 year anniversary working at CPL Life Science. My 3 biggest takeaways from the past 3 years are: 1. Know your “why” and use that to drive you through those bad days. 2. Being organised - writing a daily plan is key to successful time management. 3. Celebrate the wins no matter how small they are, recruitment is a tough gig especially when you’re fully remote.
