The impact of National Center for the Apprenticeship Degree (NCAD)’s tremendous partners is not aspirational; it’s happening today. Leaders from across higher ed, state agencies, employers, and funders have propelled Apprenticeship Degrees to every corner of the United States. Today, we hear from NCAD leader Jack Elsey, founder of the Michigan Educator Workforce Initiative, the intermediary that helped to launch MI Talent Together. Talent Together, a superintendent-led teacher apprenticeship intermediary, is ensuring the state becomes a leader in creating home-grown teacher talent. In 2023, Michigan awarded $66.3 million to Talent Together in an effort to scale registered teaching Apprenticeship Degrees statewide. Talent Together is now on the way to serving thousands of Michigan paraeducators with no-cost and paid pathways to becoming licensed teachers. NCAD is providing extensive technical support around U.S. Department of Labor compliance and set-up, data and evaluation, and program design – and we couldn’t be more proud to play a role in Jack and the state’s vision for building equitable and barrier-free pathways into teaching for all Michiganders.
