This means vessel operations can continue without interference but fuel consumption and harmful emissions are reduced. 🚢 A pioneering wind-powered cargo ship, fitted with innovative 120ft fibreglass sails, has set sail on its maiden voyage. It has already reached a speed of over five and a half knots, powered entirely by wind. 💨 If the initial trial is successful, many more ships could be fitted with these sails. The boating industry is abound with acronyms, and boatsnews.com covers many of them in a recent article. But one acronym that has not yet made its way into the marine industry is for electric propulsion. The automotive Industry has adapted to use EV for electric vehicles. As electrification gains market share in the boating industry, perhaps EP will become a suitable acronym for boats powered by electric propulsion systems like our eDrive, which delivers up to 250 hp while eliminating the fumes, emissions and maintenance associated with gasoline-powered motors.
