Why should I care about Canned Food Month? Well, contrary to common belief, canned foods have the same or similar nutritive value to both frozen and fresh foods! The fruits and vegetables used in canned goods are picked at peak freshness, so when you can them, you are preserving them at their most nutritious! Also, canned foods are incredibly convenient and more affordable. Now you see why National Canned Food Month is so awesome, so consider donating some today. You CAN help fight hunger! https://lnkd.in/eZP5N3c6

On #WorldEnvironmentDay we’re highlighting The Oxford Food Hub – an Oxfordshire based food surplus charity that works alongside wholesalers, farmers and growers supporting food banks, warm spaces, homeless shelter, mental health support charities and children’s hospices. Recently celebrating its fifteenth anniversary, the charity is seeking to partner with more farmers and growers in the area as demand continues to soar during the cost of living crisis. The Waste And Resources Action Programme’s 2022 annual survey found that total redistributed food has increased by around 27% compared to 2021, which equates to 70 million more meals redistributed in that year. In fact Oxfordshire NFU Member and third-generation growers Rectory Farm are long-serving suppliers of the Hub. If you have surplus that you wish to donate, then you can reach Oxford Food Hub via email at admin@oxfordfoodhub.org

As we close out March, a month dedicated to raising awareness about food insecurity, it’s crucial to remember that our efforts can make a significant difference in the lives of those facing hunger. Food banks across the country work tirelessly to provide essential support to individuals and families in need, but they can't do it alone. They rely on the generosity and action of the community to keep their shelves stocked with nutritious food. Donating dry and canned goods is a powerful way to contribute to this cause. Items like canned vegetables, fruits, beans, and dry goods such as rice, pasta, and cereals can provide vital nutrition to those who might otherwise go without. Here are a few reasons to consider donating: -Every little bit helps: Even a small donation can make a big difference. Food banks are experts at stretching resources to help as many people as possible. -Community impact: By supporting your local food bank, you’re directly impacting the well-being of your neighbors and strengthening your community. -The need is great: With many still facing economic uncertainties, the demand for food assistance remains high. Your contribution helps ensure no one in your community goes hungry. -It’s a rewarding experience: Knowing you’ve played a part in providing a basic human need is incredibly fulfilling. Plus, it sets a great example for others to follow. Please join me and gather up those canned veggies, beans, fruits, and dry goods. Drop them off at your local food bank or any designated donation site in your area. Together, we can make a difference—one meal at a time! Your generosity is more than just a donation; it’s hope, it’s support, and it’s an act of kindness that resonates far beyond what we can see. #foodinsecurity #give #endhunger

For over two years, Manna has seen skyrocketing demand for food, including to-go meals, and we need your help to cover our rising costs. Manna is currently preparing and providing over 11,000 to-go meals every month, MORE THAN DOUBLE the 5,000 we were preparing and providing in spring 2022. To-go meals offer a convenient way for people to access food. People can take as many meals as they need, and also share them with family and friends who need food. To-go meals are available in meat, pork, seafood and vegetarian options and include an entree, sides, snacks and beverage. As with our sit-down community meals, we provide to-go meals to anyone in need, "no questions asked," in order to be as inclusive and accessible as possible. From time to time, however, we conduct surveys so we can learn and improve. In February and March, Manna conducted a daily survey with all to-go meal guests. Here's a snapshot of our findings: • On average, over 120 people get to-go meals every day. • For every person who gets to-go meals, three people are fed, because people take meals to share with others. • On average, our to-go meals feed over 300 people every day. Even though we use donated food, each to-go meal costs Manna about $4.33 to produce. With the increased amount of meals Manna is distributing, we need your help to cover our increased costs. Please consider donating today! Thank you to all of our food donors, volunteers and staff who make it possible for us to continue meeting the growing demand for food in our community. This #HungerActionMonth, Dairy West is excited to announce our collaboration with Tackle Hunger to combat food insecurity across the nation. During this crucial month and throughout the year, we are committed to ensuring that essential dairy foods are within everyone’s reach. Milk, cheese and yogurt, while highly demanded, are seldom donated to food charities because they need refrigeration. Through our partnership with Tackle Hunger and their innovative donation map, you can help change this by making monetary donations directly to local food charities. These contributions will provide nutrient-rich dairy to those in dire need. This initiative spans 21 states, where regional dairy councils work tirelessly to ensure that donations reach our communities effectively. This effort not only feeds but also nourishes, supporting everything from children’s growth to adults' health. Jaclyn St. John MS, RDN, LD from Dairy West underscores the urgency: “With 13 million children facing food insecurity in our nation, our partnership with Tackle Hunger is crucial. By donating through the Tackle Hunger Map, you support our local food banks in providing dairy essentials to families in need.” 🔗 Join us in making a difference. Visit the map.tacklehunger.org to support your local food charity and help us make dairy accessible to all. Your involvement can lead to a healthier, more equitable community. #TackleHunger #DairyNourishes #FeedTheChange #AgNews #StrongerInNumbers

Chobani's new 'Super Milk' hit shelves with a first stop at Idaho food pantries. Chobani donated 3,000 cases of Super Milk to the The Idaho Foodbank after launching on Tuesday. Super Milk has 25% less sugar and 50% more protein than average milk and can stay on shelves for nine months. Once put in the refrigerator, the milk needs to be consumed within two weeks. Chobani will be donating products to food banks within Idaho and New York, where processing facilities are located. In 2022, over 220,000 Idahoans experienced food insecurity. Idaho Foodbank CEO, Randy Ford, said, "[Food banks] don't have to have refrigerated transportation. They don't have capacity constraints on their coolers within their pantries. And it really allows for that access to be made across the state to all of our neighbors that are experiencing food insecurity." 🔗 Read full story at https://bit.ly/3W4fZPy #Chobani #SuperMilk #DairyProcessing #Innovation #Generosity #FoodBank #Idaho #NewProduct

Food brings people together – from first dates to family get-togethers. Many of us are lucky to be able to access so many amazing cuisines, dishes, ingredients and flavours in the cosmopolitan world we live in today. Plus, we know more about what makes a healthy diet and what bodies need to function well. World Food Day celebrates all of this. But it’s also a day to raise awareness for people who don’t share these privileges. One of the best ways to celebrate World Food Day is by giving to those who need it most: such as making a donation to a food bank or charity, or adding a specified item or two to your grocery shopping and donating it on your way out. #worldfoodday #vitamins #supplements #healthandwellness #health #wellness
