The Independent Commission to Investigate the Facts of the Tragedy in Lewiston released its Initial Interim Report on the mass shootings that occurred in Lewiston on October 25, 2023 earlier this year. Since November 2023, the Commission has conducted seven public meetings, reviewed thousands of electronic reports and records, conducted extensive legal research, participated in site tours, and received private testimony and statements from witnesses and victims. This Interim report summarizes the Commission’s findings to date, and it is being issued for the sole purpose of addressing the actions of local law enforcement and the information provided by the U.S. Army Reserve prior to the deadliest mass shooting in Maine’s history. The Commission continues to investigate this matter and anticipates additional public meetings before a comprehensive final report is issued later this year. https://lnkd.in/eFhKSmhx #report #review #AAR #lessons #shooting #shootings #massshooting #activeshooter #AVI #activeviolence #investigation #research #highthreat #threat #threats #response #lawenforcement #police #violence #attack #attacks #infoshare #publicsafety

What is a criminal trial like? The trial begins with opening statements, where the prosecution and defense outline their cases. The prosecution presents its evidence, including witness testimony, documents, and physical evidence. The defense has the opportunity to cross-examine witnesses and challenge the evidence presented. After the prosecution rests its case, the defense presents its evidence and witnesses. The prosecution then has the opportunity to cross-examine defense witnesses. Both sides may present closing arguments, summarizing their cases and attempting to persuade the jury of their position. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 | 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐄 • United Nations—Global Imperative • A Resolute Demand for Justice and Accountability on International Criminal Justice Day In a world besieged by crises and challenges, the imperative to safeguard the vulnerable and forge a collective path towards peace and justice cannot be understated. As the world observes the International Criminal Justice Day this Wednesday, the focus sharpens on the pivotal role of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in its steadfast mission to cultivate a more equitable and righteous global order. The ICC stands as an indomitable bastion against the perpetrators of war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and aggression, leaving no quarter for impunity in the face of abhorrent transgressions. This moment demands more than mere reflection; it compels resolute action and unyielding commitment. The international community must rise as one, articulating a resounding call for accountability and redress for the multitudes who have been ravaged by the ravages of conflict and brutality. It is incumbent upon us to shatter the veil of impunity that shields those responsible for grievous offenses, sending an unequivocal message that the rule of law is sacrosanct. The tireless endeavors of the ICC serve as a ray of hope for the disenfranchised, offering solace amidst the shadows of despair. On this auspicious occasion, let’s stand united, voices resonant in a symphony of defiance against injustice and inhumanity. Let’s demand not mere platitudes but tangible actions, holding perpetrators of atrocities to strict account for their deeds. The era of passive bystandership has waned; the time for bold and decisive measures is nigh. As we commemorate International Criminal Justice Day, let’s reassert our dedication to upholding the tenets of justice, accountability, and human rights. Let’s pledge unconditional solidarity with the marginalized, amplifying their voices and ensuring that no soul is forsaken in the quest for a more just and impartial world. The clarion call for change reverberates across the expanse of the globe; the clarion call for justice echoes with undivided clarity.
In times of crisis, we must protect the vulnerable and unite to achieve peace and justice. On Wednesday's Day of International Criminal Justice, see how the International Criminal Court works towards building a more just world for all by fighting impunity for war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide and aggression. https://lnkd.in/d7kCE2r

#Justice - Fairness in action comes only after knowing the truth. Imagine if #we abstain ourselves from the realities and remain actively involved in the indulgence of democratic viewpoint. What are we teaching our generations to act on? Who is wrong or what is wrong? The answer lies in the question itself. Decisions taken on the basis of assumptions and false information (be it of any sort) will not help us understand what the real problem is. Justice brings #peace, serve #humanity and allow people to live #happily. It is not other way around. Removal of justice (unless it is serving humanity or a purpose - systems can be altered, standards can offer flexibility, people change their minds when the motive is positive and impactful) will make our communities weak and unbearable to an extent where lives get affected immensely and the impact of such actions last longer than #one could ever imagine. Sometimes, it even ends a strong and healthy relationship, because the long term sufferings always have their own consequences which often people face when it is conflicted with one’s principles and personal beliefs. “The world needs peace everywhere, and for everyone.” Humble people can only add kind statements to make others feel better. The real issue is knowing the problem and treating the root cause rather than blaming people or trying to put others down or make them suffer because of one’s fixed mindset or partial information or could be something bigger in the plot which is invisible. #justiceforall
