Maybe we should just ramp up production and sell more dual-use strategic materials at bargain basement prices ? How else are we going to be able to afford to pay for all our new Defence equipment…that we need to protect ourselves from the unprecedented regional military build up, fueled by our sale of dual-use strategic materials ?

US Moves to Restore Stockpiling ‘Panic Button’ in EV Metals Fight with China Washington’s efforts have so far had limited success, and some mining executives complain of a lack of coherent strategy at a time when metal prices are falling. By Mark Burton, Joe Deaux, Michael J Kavanagh, Jennifer A Dlouhy, and Annie Lee February 20, 2024 at 5:31 AM GMT+5:30 Insiders liken it to a “panic button.” And for more than 80 years, the primary job of the National Defense Stockpile has been to keep the US military supplied with essential raw materials and protect against supply shocks. So when China surprised the markets by restricting exports of two niche industrial metals last year, top-level officials in the Pentagon-controlled agency—and the White House—faced an uncomfortable reality: Its panic button no longer worked. The realization triggered a different kind of alarm in Washington.

For those in the defence, aerospace and green tech sectors take note! China is again dumping REE onto world markets simply in an effort to disincentivize and or halt production. They will then do a 180 and halt shipments- as they have in the past- The absolute necessity of continentally/NATO secure supply is now a front burner issue. Yes it will cost more and it will train a new generation of western specialists. Yes this onshoring will be inherently inflationary, but consider the cost if precision munitions can’t be made?!?! It is time for governments to help with bonds to enable the truly huge cap ex required while we also need NATO primes to step up, pay up and commit to multi year offtake agreements, at WESTERN price points. While I am at it, change the metrics so this spending can be fully counted towards NATO targets. Cheers, cherish your loved ones Phil

🚢 Disruption of one of the world's key shipping routes is hitting the mining industry Attacks on shipping in the Red Sea are starting to affect miners, as transit from the Indian Ocean to the Eastern Mediterranean through the Suez Chanel is cut off. ASX: BHP GROUP LIMITED - BHP 4-Hour Chart Analysis Function: Major trend (Minute degree, navy) Mode: Motive Structure: Impulse Position: Wave ((3))-navy Details: The short-term outlook suggests that wave ((ii))-navy appears to have just ended as a Zigzag, and starting from the low of 57.37, wave ((iii))-navy is unfolding to push higher. However, be mindful of the alternative wave count (ALT), which indicates that wave (b)-orange of wave ((ii))-navy might still be unfolding. This scenario is less common, so its probability is lower. Ever wondered how Urban Mining helps transform the way we build? 🏚️ We were recently featured in a documentary on Deutsche Welle about Urban Mining, with an innovative example from a project in Heidelberg, Germany. This former US army base, once bustling with nearly 5,000 people, is now part of a massive urban experiment. "Urban mining involves carefully deconstructing buildings to recycle or reuse materials, significantly reducing waste and emissions. It's about creating infrastructure where these reuse flows can be redirected. It's time to bring that mindset back," Nico Schouten our built environment lead and urban mining expert states. 📺Check out the full documentary to learn more: https://lnkd.in/diCqZrU4 Do you want to understand why and how we extract materials from buildings to reuse in new projects? Empowering building highly scalable, big data and systems software is my passion
3moI do wonder how many billions of tons of copper and valuable rare Earth metals are in landfills, and at what point the cost of these materials will make the extraction and recycling costs worth exploiting. Maybe all these waste management companies are really just masquerading and they really represent very long-term investments.
