WHAT DO YOUR CUSTOMERS VALUE? I have studied so much about wine in my life, that recently I have put a lot more focus learning about business. I was driving home from work yesterday listening to Alex Hormozi and he said something like “your price is not too high, your value is too low”. Many people say that people only buy something when they perceive there is sufficient value. I thought back on the different events I have held during my career. I have held events at wineries, corporate events, events in retail stores, events for the communities, events for sommeliers, events for the general public, free events, and events where entry cost hundreds of dollars. Some events were very easy to sell and engage new leads, and others were very hard to sell. Why? You need to know what your customers values are. For some people, quantity equals value (e.g. how many wineries will be present, how many wines can they sample?), some people want to learn, some people want a luxurious and prestigious experience, some people want to relax, some people want to have fun, some people will choose one or a few of these options… It’s important to have a clear understanding of the public you want to engage with, and to have a clear message about what your event is about. What will the client get, and what are your goals and the results you want to get from those events? More sales? New leads? Engagement? Understanding your target market and talking their language is one of the most important skills to have in the wine (or any) business. What have been your experiences with events? Day 15/30 of my series of retail, social media, business and much more! I think REFY is one of the coolest brands right now. Started when founder, Jess Hunt, had a famous five step eyebrow routine to get her signature fluffy brows (a huge trend), and her friend & makeup artist (Jenna Meek) noticed a product development opportunity for a functional product, they have since killed it with incredible social media campaigns and content, amazing activations (like the one below) and I believe they have disrupted the beauty market in a very impressive way. From my consumer/follower perspective, Jess owned the fluffy brow trend and I saw it as part of her personal brand even as the trend died down and so when I saw her launch their famous brow sculpt, it made so much sense. It’s one of my absolute favourite things to see in business when someone’s authenticity and unique personal brand allows them to create an opportunity and have it go beyond them - as REFY has done with its worldwide success. I think the brand really understands social media as they are consistently bringing out exciting campaigns, pop ups, and unique activations, which is important in the beauty industry where hype phases can die out quickly. And of course after the huge success of what I think is their hero product (the brow sculpt), they are expanding into other beauty product categories like lips and face, which is in line with their focus on functional, natural and clean makeup. If you haven’t already heard of them, they’re one to watch for sure. (Also last point because I could talk all day and I’m actually studying them for some coursework right now, but their retail partnerships are very interesting as 3 weeks into launching Sephora picked them up so they’ve been stocked in the US and UK since very early on. Customers are being more and more selective. From private events, to companies and wedding organisers, they are noticeably being more cautious about who they hire as competition gets tougher! (Which is a great thing if you're serious about what you do!) But that doesn’t mean you have to earn less, get less bookings or fall behind competitors, just because competition is fierce. Creating ✨️MICRO offers ✨️ from what you already do to meet a customer need and solve a problem for them is a super effective way to offer “luxury” and “unique” food experiences without the massive price tag customers a re trying to avoid. 😎 The customer gets something amazing. 💃 You get paid decently and don’t compromise your brand or reputation in the process. Everybody wins. And the real trick to getting this right? It's all about volume! So instead of thinking about 1 event earning a large amount, it's fine tuning your mindset to understand that several events that require less time and effort, can bring in the same or even more! And then creating THE offer that will allow you to reach the specific customers who are looking for it!.
