The Concorde was a groundbreaking supersonic commercial jet that revolutionized air travel. It was jointly developed by British and French manufacturers, with its first transatlantic crossing in 1973 and the commencement of scheduled supersonic passenger service in 1976. The Concorde had a maximum cruising speed of 1,354 mph (Mach 2.04), allowing it to significantly reduce flight times, such as completing the New York to London route in just two hours, 52 minutes, and 59 seconds. Despite its technological advancements and speed, the Concorde faced challenges such as noise, operating expenses, and limited profitability, leading to its retirement in 2003. The aircraft's legacy as a symbol of European cooperation and aerospace innovation remains significant, with some Concorde aircraft preserved in museums worldwide, including the Intrepid Museum in New York. 𝙇𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙉𝙚𝙬 𝙔𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙞𝙣 1 𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙧? Venus Aerospace are currently developing a new model of Hypersonic Jet, the 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗮𝘇𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝟰 which is expected to be able to fly across the Atlantic Ocean in just 1 hour! The impressive jet will travel at 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝟲 (or 6x the speed of sound) which for us regular people is around 4600 mph / 7400 kph. It will also fly much higher than regular turbo-jet engined planes at 𝟭𝟭𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝘁, or around 3x higher than your regular flight. Now we all remember the fate of the concorde which flew it's last commercial flight in 2003 after nearly 30 years in operation. Expensive operational costs and "sky high" ticket prices ultimately proved concorde's downfall and now we settle for slower but far cheaper air travel. So is this just another gimmicky PR stunt? Or will it 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹 and make our globe feel even smaller? #concorde #airtravel #rocketscience

The Concorde, one of the most iconic supersonic passenger aircraft, was a collaboration between the UK and France. Developed in the 50s and 60s, its first prototype flight took place on March 2, 1969, in Toulouse. ✈️ Entering commercial service in 1976 with British Airways and Air France, the Concorde could reach speeds over Mach 2, cutting flight times from London to New York to around 3.5 hours. 🌍 Its main competitor was the Soviet Tupolev Tu-144, which also achieved supersonic speeds but faced more technical issues and had a shorter operational period. 🚀 Despite its luxury and technological excellence, high maintenance costs and limited routes (due to the level of noise generated at supersonic speeds) meant Concorde was never a financial success. It was retired in 2003 after 27 years of service due to rising costs and declining passenger numbers. 💼 Even in retirement, Concorde remains an aviation icon, inspiring future engineers and enthusiasts. 🌟 #AviationHistory #Concorde #Supersonic #Aerospace #Innovation #Aviation #Engineering #Travel #AviationEnthusiast

Enjoyable visit to Aerospace Bristol today where the last Concorde ever to fly, registration G-BOAF, is preserved on public display. My first time ever seeing one of these incredible beauties. An absolute marvel of engineering. Times have changed a great deal since the 1960s when Concorde was designed, with the aviation industry now focussed on cost, economy, efficiency and sustainability, rather than speed and luxury. The remarkable speed of Concorde has been replaced with the efficiency and range of modern twin-jets such as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Airbus A350, allowing smaller and medium-sized airports to grow their destination offering on routes with a ‘long and skinny’ commercial profile. Point to point is increasingly replacing hub and spoke made possible by the aforementioned models as well as earlier innovations such as the magnificent Boeing 757 which remains the workhorse of many Trans-Atlantic and Trans-Continental routes with American carriers today. Speed is much less of a consideration than it once was. Do you think we will see commercial supersonic aviation again? My prediction would be ‘No’. #aviation #engineering #technology

✈️Celebrating 75 Years of the Bristol Brabazon: The Aircraft That Paved the Way for Concorde✈️ The 75th anniversary of the Bristol Brabazon, a pioneering aircraft that laid the groundwork for the development of Concorde, is being celebrated this September. On September 4, 1949, about 10,000 people gathered at Filton Airfield to witness its maiden flight. Dubbed the "ocean liner of the sky," the Brabazon was designed to usher in a new era of luxurious air travel. Although the project was a commercial failure, as the market shifted towards more affordable, high-density flights, it played a significant role in the history of aviation. Its development directly influenced the Bristol Aeroplane Company's future success, particularly its involvement in the design and construction of Concorde. Aerospace Bristol is hosting talks and displays throughout September to commemorate this anniversary. Visitors can view pieces of the aircraft, including the cockpit window and tyre, while also learning about public reactions at the time. Amy Seadon, head of collections at Aerospace Bristol, expressed the museum's excitement in showcasing the importance of the Brabazon to Bristol’s aviation heritage. Filton runway and the Brabazon Hangar, originally built for this project, became instrumental in the later development of Concorde. Despite its eventual failure, the Brabazon remains an iconic part of British aviation history. #BristolBrabazon #AviationHistory #Concorde #AerospaceBristol #FiltonAirfield #AviationInnovation #Supersonic #BristolAeroplaneCompany #AircraftEngineering #Brabazon #AviationMilestones #BritishEngineering
