The Department of Veterans Affairs is hosting a FREE virtual Veterans Experience Action Center (VEAC) May 7th – 9th, 2024, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. EST. This event is exclusively for residents of the following states: ME, NH, VT, NY, PA, OH, MI, IN, IL, WI, MO, DC, MD, DE, NJ, CT, RI, MA The event is open to Veterans, service members (active/reserve/transitioning), families, caregivers, and survivors to connect them with valuable resources and speak 1-on-1 with VA experts. While this event is geared toward recently separated and transitioning service members, it is open to ALL Veterans, service members, families, caregivers, and survivors in the identified region. In the coming months, VA will host three additional virtual VEACs that will include the remaining US states and territories. World is WAY too small!! Worked with Babs Chase at Heroes MAKE America and now she’s at the Elizabeth Dole Foundation working on the #CampaignForInclusiveCare and specifically, Face The Fight, serving our #veterans. The realities of veteran suicide are shocking. Through Face the Fight, Babs and team are working to break the stigma surrounding suicide in the military community by raising awareness and fostering real, open conversations around support and hope. The inclusive care initiative is focused on inclusive care across the VHA, organized into three phases: 1) Understand the challenges and opportunities within the VHA landscape. 2) Organize the response by forming a Solutions Team of VHA clinicians, caregivers, and system change experts to create a toolkit for addressing the changes necessary to achieve success. 3) Establish The Academy for Inclusive Care, a curriculum and learning management system for VHA providers. #veteranhealthcarejourney Operation Stand Down Tennessee Chris Lancia Eden Murrie Douglas Slakey, MD,MPH #healthsystemsscience Thomas F. 🏅 Tiny Titans: The Children Who Care for Our Veterans 🌟 Introduction Children in the homes of wounded warriors often take on significant caregiving roles, providing essential support to their injured parents. These young individuals balance their lives while ensuring the well-being of their families, showcasing resilience, compassion, and strength. 📜 Historical Background Traditionally, caregiving was seen as an adult responsibility. However, with more soldiers returning home with injuries, children have increasingly stepped up, reshaping the caregiving landscape. The Caregiver and Veteran Omnibus Health Services Act of 2010 aimed to provide support, but the unique needs of child caregivers are often overlooked. 📅 Significant Milestones Organizations like the Elizabeth Dole Foundation have been pivotal in advocating for child caregivers, highlighting their contributions and challenges. Their efforts bring much-needed awareness and support to these young heroes. 🌐 Impact on Society/Industry Child caregivers highlight the need for comprehensive support systems that address the physical, emotional, and educational needs of military families. Schools, healthcare providers, and community organizations must collaborate to offer resources that ease the burden on these young individuals. 🔮 Legacy and Future Outlook The legacy of child caregivers is one of strength and resilience. As awareness grows, future initiatives may include specialized counseling, educational support, and financial assistance to help young caregivers balance their responsibilities and personal growth effectively. 💬 Conclusion The stories of children caring for wounded warriors remind us of the incredible capacity for empathy and strength within our youth. Society must acknowledge their contributions and support their sacrifices. Working at USAA, where I support the military community and their families every day, I am continually inspired by their dedication and resilience. Did you know that only 6% of physicians in the United States are Latino? Why this stat matters is because today, roughly 10% of seniors 65 and older are Latinos, but by 2030 that number will nearly double and by 2060 even it will be even higher. Not having enough Latino physicians to care for aging seniors will ultimately shift the responsibility to unpaid family caregivers. Which is why planning for this shift now is critical to help make sure that care is appropriately represented for all, even as we age. It's for this reason that we are so proud to be founded by not one, but TWO Latino physicians who are both military veterans on a new mission to change the narrative on how we age and how we view aging. Our goal at Cline is to become the brand that celebrates the active-aging lifestyle of today's seniors, giving them the confidence and comfort they need to live independently longer.
