Health inequities are pervasive nationally, with the health and well-being of Americans too often diverging along racial and ethnic lines. There are many factors that contribute to health disparities, but how we finance health care services and the structural payment inequities embedded in our health care system have gone under-explored. In a new report supported by Arnold Ventures, Manatt Health’s Adam Striar, Nathan Pauly, Kevin McAvey, Anne Karl and Cindy Mann seek to address this gap by investigating how health care provider payment variation contributes to disparities. Specifically, they explore questions like: do providers who predominantly treat “historically marginalized populations” get paid less for the same services than those that treat predominantly White populations? And if so, is this driven only by payer mix or do payment differences within payer types play a role? Learn more and read the full report here:

Eye-popping #PublicHealth stat: Health inequities cost Americans an extra $320 billion a year in avoidable health care costs. Without major improvements in health care access, that expense is expected to triple to $1 trillion by 2040 – about $3,000 a year for every person, according to Deloitte Insights. Health equity strategies, including the growth of mobile health care delivery, can reduce overall health care costs and strengthen relationships in communities where trust in medicine is low. #MobileClinics #MobileHealthCare #HealthCareForAll #HealthCareCosts #FutureOfHealthCare

The U.S. ranked last overall among 10 high-income countries in health system performance despite spending nearly twice as much on healthcare, according to new research from The Commonwealth Fund. The report reveals that the U.S. ranks last in access to care, health equity, and health outcomes. Authors David Blumenthal, Evan D. Gumas, Arnav Shah, Munira Z. Gunja, and Reginald D. Williams II found that, despite being the biggest spender on healthcare, Americans have the shortest life expectancy and highest rates of avoidable deaths. Those in underserved communities continue to face significant access gaps which lead to increased rates of chronic disease and cardiac events. #healthcare #healthequity #healthcarepolicy #thecommonwealthfund #healthcareresearch https://lnkd.in/eMshnDaq
