Did you know that 40% of physicians are reluctant to seek medical care for a mental health condition? On a similar note, nurses suffer from similar fears of losing their license to practice or losing employment if they seek mental health care. While there has been considerable emphasis on improving the well-being of clinicians, there is much to be done to alleviate the stress and burnout experienced by the entire healthcare workforce. In this episode of This Clinical Life, Stephen Beeson, MD and Corey Feist from the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes' Foundation explore the importance of fostering a work environment where everyone in healthcare feels safe when asking for help. "We envision a world where seeking and obtaining mental health treatment is viewed as a sign of strength. The first thing we all need to be doing is what we’re doing right now, which is just talk about these issues, talk about the challenges, and talk about the solutions because we know that those will have a tremendous impact on supporting the healthcare workforce." - J. Are you familiar with the concept of trauma-informed care? It's a game-changer in the health and wellness field! ✨ “Trauma-informed care is really about understanding and recognizing the pervasiveness of trauma, as well as what we can do as practitioners, providers, and administrators to understand how people have been affected by psychological trauma,” explained Dr. Alane Lucht (DC, MA, LADC, LPC). “It’s really about recognizing that certain behavioral or health issues may have roots in psychological trauma experiences.” There’s not one single way to practice trauma-informed care. It’s not a step-by-step system, or even a modality, but rather a way of approaching patient care. Learning how to be trauma-informed is a way of being, thinking, and treating. This is in addition to the treatments you perform or the recommendations you give. Incorporating a trauma-informed approach into your practice will help you better understand the whole picture of your patients’ health. If you want to learn more about trauma-informed care, check out the Master of Health Science in Integrative Care at NWHSU. 📢Ready to unlock a whole new level of patient care? Reflecting on the need we have, as practitioners working in health care, to work together and support each other in the work we do. I just had a moment of connection with some fellow practitioners in the hub where I practice. We chatted about the ethical requirements of our caseloads and how this impacts us, and the ways we manage this. Spaces to share these things are important. #multidisciplinarypeersupport #teamwork #sharedgoals
