Building partnership and long term relationships is hard wired into our philosophy. A philosophy that values understanding, innovation, and collaborative evolution. Henry Ford once said, "Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success." This sentiment perfectly encapsulates our journey with each partner. #partnerships #BusinessPhilosophy #foundations

Quick read! As Architects, it takes a few simple questions to start the conversation: Who's using the space and what do they need?
I was interviewed for this great little article on Universal Design by Buildings Magazine. Geared mainly towards commercial building owners and facility managers, it's a light intro to UD and what it can do for such a large portion of the building stock out there. Check it out. Also shout out to IDEA Center | University at Buffalo for all the great work they're doing. They also contributed to this article. #BuildingsMagazine #UniversalDesign #CommercialBuildings #REIT #REITs #AccessForAll #BeyondADA #UDesign

hand drawn. tactile. craftsmanship. material understanding.
Mike Holland, Head of Industrial Design at Foster + Partners, describes the new FSB 1292 range, designed in collaboration with FSB - Franz Schneider Brakel. “Door handles are often our first point of contact with a building, marking the threshold and introducing us to the spaces within. A handle is a first impression - and it should be a good one.”

Whitby Wood is proud to lead the Built by Nature funded consortium to develop the Optoppen open-source website that will enable city planners and asset owners to quickly understand their vertical extension potential using lightweight timber and bio-based materials. Kelly Harrison, Director at Whitby Wood said, “If we want to move forward as a whole industry, we have to collaborate, we have to share knowledge. The idea of the web platform is to show case studies of where it's been done before. There's an interactive tool where you can choose what building type you've got... you can see how much floor area and how much carbon you can store by adding storeys on top.“ Creating carbon sinks on top of cities, contributing to urban decarbonisation targets, densification strategies and more-efficient use of existing infrastructure — Optoppen has potential city-scale impact! A few weeks ago, we shared news that the Built by Nature Fund has awarded €211,000 to Optoppen a web-based platform that can revolutionise urban spaces while minimising construction emissions. Optoppen is about increasing the useable floor area of a building through lightweight timber extension. The project is led by a consortium spanning the UK, the Netherlands, and Spain for the development of an open-source knowledge and technical information platform to raise awareness and understanding of the many benefits of vertical extension using mass timber. Headed by engineering consultancy Whitby Wood, the consortium comprises a diverse group of partners including Mule Studio, New Urban Networks EU, Holland Houtland, Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, Creative City Solutions, and Rising Tide. Throughout 2024, they will develop essential resources and tools that benefit diverse stakeholders such as building owners, city planners, and investors in understanding new redevelopment opportunities. Hear more about Optoppen from Whitby Wood’s Kelly Harrison in the video below, and you can find more information here: https://lnkd.in/gVgbFQvF

The challenges of Greenwashing for designers, architects, and manufacturers: 1. Prioritized aesthetics over legislation. 2. No single, authentic source of information. 3. Selective use of information. Recently Gordon Boggis, Carnegie CEO, spoke to the challenges the A&D industry faces when it comes to Greenwashing and how FTC Guidelines can help.
