Yes, I am a huge Chicago Bears fan (and I've suffered for decades, like all Bears fans). Whether or not you are a Bears fan, you might find some takeaways from this video. I always enjoy listening to how people present their vision and their "why". The video is about 10-minutes in length. Many of the compelling points of the vision of this project relate to community planning. Some of the themes include: -Open space for children to play -Athletic green spaces for youth to come together and be productive and healthy -Integration into built and natural environment -Building recreational and cultural campus -Young students to study in parks and open space and bring back their education into classrooms -A destination where people want to visit and spend time -Year-round campus activation through recreation -Cultural arts focus -Catalyst to help address youth safety -Ecological and sensitive approach -Preserving viewshed While the specifics of the funding model have not yet been clearly shared, it is mentioned that project may cost over $4billion with a percentage (mentioned as much as 50%) from public funding.

One of the great things about a healthy sports fandom is how it can bring people together, creating at times a much needed boost across various communities. As a diehard Detroit Lions fan (we know the agony of defeat more than most), to see the progress this team has had over the past few years to the point of being just one win away from making it to the Super Bowl, seeing such positive things being said about your town, and seeing others across the country rooting for you is beyond description. However, this post I saw on Facebook from 🎙Mark Steckman 🎧 comes close: --- Most people outside Michigan don’t realize what this means to the city of Detroit. It’s bigger than football. It’s about a comeback that’s been in the making for 30+ years. In 1950, Detroit was the 4th most populous city in the country. It was the epicenter of Motown music, the largest manufacturing industry, and was a thriving, diverse & desirable place to be. For much of the last 40-50 years, the city struggled with so many self-inflicted wounds….run-down vacant homes, crime, fires on devils night, government corruption and on and on. But if you’ve been to Detroit, you know today it’s different. It’s becoming more economically diverse. Home to the top 2 mortgage companies in the USA. Home to 4 of the largest pizza franchises in the USA. Rebuilding downtown. Casinos, markets, restaurants, shopping, events, theaters, stadiums, housing. Visionary leaders like Dan Gilbert & Mike Ilitch among others saw opportunity to restore this once great city to its glory. And it’s well on its way. What the Lions represent to the city of Detroit is far greater than a football game. It’s about the comeback. Never giving up. Leadership seeing greatness in and thru the ugliest of days past. As the Indiana Pacers compete in the NBA’s Eastern Conference Finals and Indy prepares for the 108th running of the Indianapolis 500, we gathered experts from the sports world to share insights into the powerful role sports play in our global community.  This afternoon’s panel at the Indiana Global Economic Summit featured Marissa Andretti of Andretti Global, Mel Raines of Pacers Sports & Entertainment, Roger VanDerSnick of the Indianapolis Colts and moderator Julie Roe Lach of the Horizon League. From the cultural exchanges on the field to the economic ripples throughout our cities, the influence of sports extends far beyond the final score. Our panelists explored how teams and organizations are navigating their expanding global reach and leveraging the power of social media to elevate the profiles of athletes and teams worldwide.  The economic impact is undeniable – creating jobs, boosting tourism revenue and offering global exposure to brands. Indiana has quickly become a hub for the future of sports technology. The work of Sports Tech HQ will ensure the Hoosier state remains a leader.  As we celebrate the achievements happening locally, let’s also recognize the broader impact sports have on the world stage. Now let’s talk Gohlke / Oakland and local activation: Sana Detroit 📲THE ACTIVATION: TBD given the video below. SANA Detroit is a retail company that captures southeastern Michigan sports history through clothing. They’ve previously activated with UMich and professional Detroit teams. 📍LOCAL / SMALL BUSINESSES: being sports integrated / adjacent, and with previous NIL engagement experience, Sana probably has a more robust NIL engagement playbook than most small businesses. When I was interviewing on the topic, the reasoning that came up was 1.) NIL is too new; general uncertainty around the rules and how to engage, 2.) lack of business capacity. I think this is getting better as the market moves towards ‘’standards’’ but still generally undercapitalized on by small businesses. 💥ASK AND YOU COULD RECEIVE: moving away from Gohlke and towards general student-athlete advice: reasons 1 & 2 above are why I, and others, encourage student athletes to DM or cold email brands you like. I’ve seen it work. If you approach them with a general idea of how you’d want to structure the engagement and a strong pitch, you’re taking part of the job off their shoulders and demonstrating how you could align with their business values & brand. Not only is it great to start to nail down your NIL & professional brand, but it’s also great practice for if / when you start job hunting. If you’re an athlete (or if you know one) who wants to do this, but doesn’t know where to start or just needs a little encouragement… reach out to me and I’d be happy to advise however I can. It’d be great to learn from you, too— I’m currently developing an NIL education series with one of the largest public school districts in Michigan to introduce, educate, and empower high school athletes so they have the fundamentals before getting to their college campuses. Does the business world over-use sports metaphor and analogy? I'm as competitive and sports-centric as they come. I dedicated my life to basketball all the way into college, worked in #sportsbusiness for years, and I'm a season-ticket-holder for my favorite college football team. And yet, I'm wondering if we over-use sports terms in business. I know I use them a lot! But sports are zero-sum games. There's a winner and a loser. Business, however, isn't that black and white. It's so much more complex, and winning can simultaneously occur - even for the staunchest of competitive rivals. Joan Magretta writes in her work that the performing arts may be a better analogy. "There can be many good singers or actors - each outstanding and successful in a distinctive way. Each finds and creates an audience."
