🔔 🔔 I’m starting a newsletter 🔔 🔔 As a music executive of over eleven years, I’ve worked with fantastic people. But as a gender and racial minority working in alternative music, a big passion of mine has been highlighting underrepresented Black talent who occupy this space. black radical - my new Substack - will be a place to highlight these artists. Curated by me, it’ll exclusively feature Black musicians who write, perform and produce in alternative music through interviews, features and a playlist. It's alternative in its broadest sense: It could be artists that perform indie, classical, singer-songwriter, post punk, ‘guitars’, experimental etc. In some instances, it’ll feature Black artists that perform in outwardly looking Black genres that don’t often get mainstream coverage: jazz, blues, world for example. Artists of any size and stature are welcome and features won't necessarily be beholden to release timelines. It’ll launch in late June (date tbc) but for now, I’d be so grateful if you could: ➡ SUBSCRIBE to the substack (link in post) ➡ SHARE the link (and info) with anyone you think might be interested in it in any form. I’m really keen to do collaborations that compliment the newsletter and can help me get the word out there, e.g: writing or contributing to features, podcast interviews, conference talks and teaming up with like-minded people, so please reach out if you have ideas or just want to share some music with me: blkradicals@gmail.com (or drop me a message on here) The goal is simply to create a space where Black talent is highlighted exclusively, without room for or risk of tokenism and to make it a tool for discovery. This is a labour of love, and something that I’m doing outside my normal work. It's not a media or music biz commentary/criticism newsletter, just an opportunity to celebrate talent through a finite lens. ❤️My hope is that loads of cool things develop from this project in the future so if you like the sound of this, a post boost would be much appreciated. ❤️
