Let's kick things off with a BANG 💥 Mazvita talks about the dark side of capitalism in the music industry. Full interview OUT NOW on YouTube. Click here: https://lnkd.in/ePKMAqwA We often think of music as an art that brings people together and creates connections. But have you ever stopped to think about how capitalism affects this industry? Our conversation with Maz sheds light on the negative impact of capitalism on the music industry, with real examples and a passionate speaker who truly cares about this topic. It's incredible to see how people are willing to spend their time and attention on music, even if it doesn't bring in a lot of money. That's the power of art. But when capitalism comes into play, the focus shifts from the art to profit. We see this with the exploitation of artists and the constant search for the next profitable trend. It's almost like plagiarism, but with a fancy name. And when the trend dies out, capitalism moves on to the next big thing, leaving behind important and beautiful genres. This not only takes away from the art, but also affects the livelihoods of those working in the industry. Of course, we understand that money is necessary to survive. But let's not forget the true purpose of music – to connect people and bring joy. So let's support artists who make music for the love of it, not just for profit. Together, we can unveil the dark side of capitalism in the music industry and make a change for the better. Each generation feels that the songs that they had grown up with were the best songs. The reason behind this is that we get emotionally connected to the songs that we have grown up with because we identify specific moments of our life which we recall when we listen to those particular songs. As we grow up, we get less less time to listen to new music, and that is another reason why we feel more connected, to the music that we used to listen to. No matter what music has always been and shall remain the soundtrack to our lives such as the power of music. Happy world music Day to everyone. #WorldMusicDay #MusicLovers #EmotionalConnections #SoundtrackOfLife #GenerationalMusic #MusicMemories #LinkedInCommunity #ProfessionalGrowth #LifeSoundtrack

🔔 🔔 I’m starting a newsletter 🔔 🔔 As a music executive of over eleven years, I’ve worked with fantastic people. But as a gender and racial minority working in alternative music, a big passion of mine has been highlighting underrepresented Black talent who occupy this space. black radical - my new Substack - will be a place to highlight these artists. Curated by me, it’ll exclusively feature Black musicians who write, perform and produce in alternative music through interviews, features and a playlist. It's alternative in its broadest sense: It could be artists that perform indie, classical, singer-songwriter, post punk, ‘guitars’, experimental etc. In some instances, it’ll feature Black artists that perform in outwardly looking Black genres that don’t often get mainstream coverage: jazz, blues, world for example. Artists of any size and stature are welcome and features won't necessarily be beholden to release timelines. It’ll launch in late June (date tbc) but for now, I’d be so grateful if you could: ➡ SUBSCRIBE to the substack (link in post) ➡ SHARE the link (and info) with anyone you think might be interested in it in any form. I’m really keen to do collaborations that compliment the newsletter and can help me get the word out there, e.g: writing or contributing to features, podcast interviews, conference talks and teaming up with like-minded people, so please reach out if you have ideas or just want to share some music with me: blkradicals@gmail.com (or drop me a message on here) The goal is simply to create a space where Black talent is highlighted exclusively, without room for or risk of tokenism and to make it a tool for discovery. This is a labour of love, and something that I’m doing outside my normal work. It's not a media or music biz commentary/criticism newsletter, just an opportunity to celebrate talent through a finite lens. ❤️My hope is that loads of cool things develop from this project in the future so if you like the sound of this, a post boost would be much appreciated. ❤️
