Why the Change? A Little Clarification for Those Who Don’t Know Me I’ve been asked why I made the decision to leave public service and focus on Gidgee Coffee Co. full-time. I’m sharing this not to justify myself or to seek attention, but to offer a bit of clarity for those who don’t know my story. This isn’t a criticism of public service—I’m grateful for my time there and the opportunities it gave me. Here’s why I made this change: 1. Family Comes First: After returning to work when my daughter was only 6 weeks old, I realized I needed to make more time for my family. This new chapter allows me to focus on them in a way that I haven’t been able to before. 2. A Deep Connection to My Community: My passion for rural and remote communities has only grown over time, especially through my work with ACRE. Brewarrina is my home, and I feel a strong pull to invest in the community that has given me so much. 3. Living with Purpose and Alignment: I wanted my work to reflect my personal values. Running Gidgee Coffee Co. allows me to do just that—living with a sense of purpose that feels authentic to who I am. 4. No Longer Feeling Split Between Worlds: Working in public service, I often felt like I was straddling two worlds—my identity as a black woman from the outback and the expectations of the public service environment. It was exhausting, at times heartbreaking and I’m ready to live fully in a way that honors my background and my values. To those concerned about the financial side—money is important, but it’s not everything. I grew up with very little, and those experiences taught me that happiness, not wealth, is what really matters to me. Happiness is my currency, and this decision feels right for me. I’m proud of the time I spent in public service and the work I was able to do. This new chapter is simply about putting family and community at the heart of my life.

So, let's challenge ourselves to question the narratives that surround us … • Are they aligned with our values, passions, and aspirations? • Are we living a story that resonates with our authentic selves? It's a journey of self-reflection and, at times, a courageous act of rewriting the script to better align with our inner truth. As we navigate the week ahead, how about being the author of our own stories, embracing the authenticity that comes with defining our narrative? In doing so, we not only empower ourselves and communicate far more powerfully, we also contribute to a world where diverse stories coexist, enriching the tapestry of the human experience. Have you ever read the book; “Jonathan Livingston Seagull” by Richard Bach? He spoke of very simple things - that it is right for a gull to fly, that freedom is the very nature of his being, that whatever stands against that freedom must be set aside, be it ritual or superstition or limitation in any form. Why, Jon, why?" his mother asked. "Why is it so hard to be like the rest of the flock, Jon? Why can't you leave low flying to the pelicans, the albatross? Why don't you eat? Son, you're bone and feathers!" "I don't mind being bone and feathers mom. I just want to know what I can do in the air and what I can't, that's all. I just want to know. For most gulls it was not flying that matters, but eating. For this gull, though, it was not eating that mattered, but flight. From the bright lights on set to trusted conversations—THIS is how a simple ‘Hello’ turns into a long-standing partnership 🤝🏻 Recently, I had the pleasure of celebrate with a friend/client’s birthday. What started as a connection on set has now blossomed into a meaningful relationship where she trusts me to guide her in planning her protection coverage and wealth accumulation. But with all successful collaborations, mutual benefits is key 🔑 Because *teamwork* makes the *dream work*, and these are what inspired me: *1. Trust Transforms Relationships* "Trust is the glue of life." - Stephen Covey. Our professional bond grew out of the trust we built over the years. It’s a reminder that genuine relationships often lead to fruitful collaborations. *2. Value Experiences Over Things* "Collect moments, not things." - Karen Salmansohn My friend shared how she prioritizes travel and experiencing different cultures over material possessions. It was an inspiring reminder that life’s richness comes from the memories we create, not just the things we own. *3. Future-Proof Your Passions* "The future belongs to those who prepare for it today." - Malcolm X. Our discussion highlighted the importance of planning not just for the present, but for the future. By accumulating wealth now, we ensure that we can continue enjoying life’s experiences for years to come. Conversations like these reinforce the importance of aligning our financial plans with our life goals—so we can *live fully* in the moment and secure our future. June marks a significant milestone for us. It’s imperative to create impact. 2️⃣Never Stop Learning. We refer to impact work as a journey for a reason. 3️⃣Sustainable Is Best - Dream big but be realistic. Impact strategies should be integrated into your brand’s long-term vision. 4️⃣Work Proactively. Impact work is best done proactively, not reactively. 💬And as we look to our fifth year: Impact Work is Worth the Investment: In 2024, we've observed that many brands are trying to quantify the value of impact work through sales and numerical results. This week, my daughter embarked on a new journey alongside her friend; they pedaled towards school with the morning sun casting a golden glow on their path. It was their ride unaccompanied by an adult, a significant milestone marking their growing independence and our trust in their abilities. This moment resonates deeply with a core value we cherish in the communities we build: celebrating transitions as progressions, not endings. In our communities, we honor those who venture out to explore new opportunities, recognizing that each departure enriches our collective experience. We applaud their courage to embrace change, much like a child's first ride without an adult. Their leaving is not a loss but a testament to the growth and development we foster within our ranks. Just as my daughter will circle back home, our departing colleagues often return, bringing with them fresh perspectives and experiences that invigorate our community. They venture out, learn, and come back to us, much like the alumni of a great institution whose ongoing contributions fuel continuous innovation and success. The cycle of leaving and returning is a powerful narrative that mirrors life's ebb and flow. It reminds us that each farewell can set the stage for a future reunion enriched by new wisdom and insights.
