Did you know since Michigan State University began recycling in 1990, the annual amount of landfill waste produced per MSU student has decreased by 66%? The Michigan State University Surplus Store & Recycling and diverts waste generated across the university’s 5,000 acre campus. MRC staffers attended a meeting for the Resource Recovery Educators of Michigan, which is a group led by Iris Waste Diversion Specialists, to learn about MSU’s recycling, vermicomposting, upcycling, and resale operation. The tour was led by MSU Recycling Coordinator and former MRC Board Member Dave Smith. Read through this post to find out what we learned!
