https://lnkd.in/eTNh6etT Nearly 300 lives have been lost, and hundreds are missing due to devastating landslides in Wayanad, India. My heart goes out to the families suffering from one of the worst "natural" disasters in recent history. It's crucial to recognize that these disasters are not just natural; they are increasingly driven by climate change. Unfortunately, little attention is paid to the root causes and preventive measures. In our climate change seminars and workshops, we emphasize how global warming is fueling such extreme events, which are expected to become more frequent and severe. While decarbonization is necessary, it will take decades, and global temperatures will continue to rise in the meantime. We must urgently invest in R&D for faster, safe solutions to cool the planet or parts of it. This call to action is vital for the future of our planet

Daytime temperatures in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) are forecasted to be 4-6°C above normal from May 21 to 27, with possible gusty winds and isolated thunderstorms. This weather pattern increases the risk of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) or flash floods in vulnerable snow-covered and glaciated regions of GB and Chitral. Consequently, district administrations, relevant local organizations, and communities are advised to stay alert and take precautionary measures to prevent any adverse incidents. On May 20, 2024, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) released a GLOF ALERT for Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral. Regarding extreme weather: China is suffering from drought and floods at the same time. Drought in north, floods in south. Flooding is horrible. Multiple rivers devastating entire towns and removing villages from the map. The iconic Three Gorges Dam, the largest hydroelectric dam in the world, is threatened. See summary and two videos at this link: https://lnkd.in/eRyDwAXR Also, watch the PRC CCP propaganda machine find a way to blame this on the West.

Time to come as we heat up the environment - It is commonsense and Predicted. Heat evaporates water, and what has gone has to come back as the cycle changes. Recent floods in Pakistan and Afghanistan can not be attributed to just Climate Change and Global Warming only. It is mostly man made phenomenon and disaster . Over the years, people have grabbed the flood channels and turned them into buildings, roads and farmlands. Flood water has no where to go but make its way through populated areas. I have seen bigger floods in the past, but they caused little damage compared to today's floods. The reason is plain and simple. There were clear paths for excess water to pass through. Unless we revert to old practices, we can not avert these dangers. They will loom over our head for foreseeable future.
