Hi, I'm Kevin Heye, the Executive Director at the Midland Child Advocacy Center formally Safe and Sound. A life hack that I've found invaluable, both in my professional and personal life, is Life Hack #41, Meeting People in Their Space. At work, whether I’m talking with staff, colleagues, or community members, I make it a point to pause, set aside distractions, and really listen to the person in front of me. I’ve found that taking this time to truly engage in the conversation strengthens relationships and fosters a supportive and collaborative environment. It’s about starting with grace—approaching every interaction with an open mind, free of preconceived notions, and focusing on the other person’s needs. In my personal life, I apply the same principle with my family. When my kids or my wife want to talk, I try to stop whatever I’m doing and give them my full attention. It’s important to me that they know they’re a priority and that I’m genuinely interested in what they say. Sometimes, just being there to listen is all they need to feel supported. This approach also helps in understanding that not every situation requires an immediate solution. As someone who often feels the urge to jump in and fix things, I’ve learned that sometimes people simply need someone to listen to feel that their concerns are being acknowledged. I keep a stone on my desk that says “breathe” as a reminder to slow down and be present in these moments. The one thing that can help with trying this Life Hack on is pausing in your conversations with others, take a breathe and seeing how you can best meet people where they are at. It’s a practice that helps me be a better leader, a more attentive husband and father, and a more compassionate community member. https://lnkd.in/gG6MPGJy 💚🧡 #lifehack #midlandareawellbeing #midlandareawellbeingcoalition #wellbeinginmidland #Wellbeing #MAWC

Hi, I'm Cathy Lunsford, the Midland County Treasurer and a proud member of the Midland Area Wellbeing Coalition. Today, I'm excited to share a life hack I use in my life: Life Hack #10 the five-minute favor. First, a five-minute favor isn't just any act of kindness—it's intentional action. It's about taking just a few minutes out of your day to do something that benefits someone else, whether it's a small gesture like offering a compliment or a more significant action like helping a coworker. I've personally experienced the power of five-minute favors in my own life. During the challenging times of COVID in 2020, while at the store to buy flowers for myself, I also decided to spread some cheer by buying flowers for my colleagues who were still working in the office. It was a simple gesture, but it meant the world to them—and to me. Second, the beauty of five-minute favors is that they don't have to cost a thing. They can be as simple as holding the door for a stranger or lending a listening ear to a friend in need. There are countless ways to spread kindness in just a few minutes each day. If you want to positively impact the world around you, why not try five-minute favors? They're a simple yet powerful way to spread positivity. And you might find that by brightening someone else's day, you also brighten your own. https://lnkd.in/gsyVijdk 🧡💚 #fiveminutefavor #lifehackinaction #midlandareawellbeingcoalition #midlandareawellbeing #mawc #wellbeing #midlandmi

I am Ashley Ghose, I am the lead assistant for the Midland Area Wellbeing Coalition and a Life Coach who helps women transform stress into strength. I'm excited to share my Life Hack # 44 Be Curious, Not Judgmental. I've always been curious. My parents would tell you I'm always asking questions. In the past few years, I've learned to keep that curiosity, especially in difficult conversations or interactions. As a physical therapist, I sometimes had frustrated patients who weren't making progress. I started using curiosity to understand why they were upset. It wasn't always about me; often, they were dealing with things they couldn't control. Before adopting this approach, I'd feel judged and then judge them in return, which didn't help anyone. Staying curious taught me to see others' perspectives and move forward. For example, I had a patient upset because of something her child did right before therapy. It wasn't about me or the therapy. This curiosity helped me avoid negative emotions and show compassion, even if I was taking the brunt of someone's bad day. Being curious has always been part of my analytical nature. I asked "why" about everything, applying it to school, work, and my patients. But it wasn't until five or seven years ago that I realized this curiosity could extend to relationships. Now, I use it to spread wellbeing, bringing a smile or some shine to someone's day, even if they're annoyed. This life hack supports my wellbeing by preventing quick judgment of others or myself in difficult situations. It helps me avoid negative thinking and fosters positive interactions, even with strangers like cashiers. When trying on this Life Hack, it is important to know that we humans are wired to judge first. So, I remember to show myself some compassion with my judgment and then shift to curiosity. For me, the process involves awareness, recognizing where I judge, and replacing that judgment with curiosity. This awareness helps me maintain healthier relationships with close friends and family. https://lnkd.in/gv-uafsz 💚🧡 #lifehackinaction #midlandareawellbeing #midlandareawellbeingcoalition #wellbeing #mawc

Hello, I'm Wally Mayton, a retired pastor who has great joy in continuing to serve the church. Today, I want to share with you Life Hack # 12 Gratitude text. As someone relatively new to texting, I've discovered its effectiveness as a tool for meaningful communication. Expressing gratitude through text has become a valuable practice for me, enhancing not only communication but also building meaningful relationships. This Life Hack supports my wellbeing by shifting my focus from tasks to people, allowing me to connect with individuals on a deeper level. Some tips that I have found helpful using Gratitude texts are to pause and think about the person you are sending the text to before sending a message, use pronouns like "I" and "we" in texts, and review texts for authenticity. The act of expressing gratitude through text has become a fulfilling part of my life, nurturing my soul and spirit and fostering meaningful connections through this simple yet powerful life hack, are vital components of my overall wellbeing. https://lnkd.in/gDDVbA8N 🧡💚 #lifehackinaction #lifehack #midlandareawellbeingcoalition #midlandareawellbeing #mawc #gratitude

With every conversation with our Pals (seniors who trust UnlockLife to be their concierge and social hub), we are witnessing massive breakdowns of stereotypes. We are learning to re-learn. We are experiencing what it truly means to be unbiased, to be inclusive. A quote that stuck with us - by Dr Sandeep Shah, a geriatric psychiatrist, and our GoodSoul (more on GoodSouls another time) - is “Baatein gira deti hai deewareein” Literal translation: Words can break down walls. Meaning: Just talking to someone has the power to break barriers. It can make a significant difference. In a fast moving world where not many have the time to spend with seniors, at UnlockLife we believe in the power of safe social opportunities that bring out the best in people. With that gem of a nugget, we are excited to debut our blog GoodTalks. The first post talks about being blissfully ageless, more so with increasing candles on the birthday cake. Do check it out and tell us what you think. https://shorturl.at/mwyH5

What is your legacy? At our last Recruiter Therapy session, Daniel Harten talked about the legacy we leave behind; what would we want that legacy to be? I LOVED THIS QUESTION! The one year anniversary of my brother’s death is coming up, and what a perfect time for me to think about this. His death has haunted me every day since June 26, 2023. Not only do I miss him terribly, but I often think about how life can end in a flash and how permanent death truly is. So, if my life were to end today, what would I want my legacy to be? I want to be known as someone who… 💛 Was good, not just nice on the surface. 💛 Was reliable and dependable. 💛 Fought for themselves & others. 💛 Truly showed up for people (especially in a time of need). 💛 Never told you what you wanted to hear. 💛 Had always had a glass half-full, not half-empty, mindset. 💛 Gave unconditional support. 💛 Was a good listener. 💛 Was a good friend. 💛 Loved deeply. 💛 Was a fun mom who actually played with their kids. 💛 Was the BEST partner (maybe someday wife)... maybe. 💛 Appreciated a good pastry and coffee. Life can seem so incredibly short, and unfortunately at times we are taught very tragic lessons proving this to be right. So, what do you want your legacy to be? #recruitertherapy #legacy #whatisyourlegacy #whatif #life #lifeisshort #recruiterthoughts #talentacquisition

It's how we choose to deal with the challenges of life that makes a difference. Humor helps us talk about the hard stuff, make sense of the world, and just makes life a little easier to endure. Thank you, Randy and Jason, The Sklar Brothers, for the reminder. #expatlife #trailingspouse #trailblazingspouse #worklifebalance
