I would like to thank Nick O'Connor and Derek Auchterlonie of Ibstock Plc at Birtley. They kindly took myself & a colleague on a tour of the Birtley Factory last week. The tour was informative in many ways and the process fascinating. It is worth pointing out that Ibstock's clay quarry is visible from the factory and that, among other practices, the hot air from the kiln is reused within the factory for heating & drying processes. Their commitment to being as #enviromentallyfriendly as possible is all encompassing within the process. Staff are mostly local, the brick moulds for special shaped bricks are made by a company on the same industrial estate and the list goes on. If you want to be #green -ish and support British made products, then I suggest you look to bricks from the North East factories at Birtley & Throckley for your next build.
I have done some research & it appears that many imported bricks, often poor quality, are the result of slave or extremely low paid labour, dangerous working conditions and the use of practices more suited to 1724, not 2024. A lot of imported bricks are passed off or implied as being British, not always the case. #BuyBritish#local#NorthEast#bricks#healthandsafety

#fridaythought It seems every week we say the same thing. We're so glad it's Friday. For our sales team particularly it's been a full-on week and we're all ready to 'park up' for the weekend. So with that theme in mind, we thought we'd finish the week with a unique Petrarch application.
This is one of those projects which posed a fair few technical and logistical hurdles, but the whole team were commended for their efforts in ensuring its success.
Huber Parking UK, the name behind the UK’s most innovative car park designs, turned to both our large format Petrarch and Petrarch PlanX to realise their new vision for Peterhouse multi-storey car park. An excellent example of a non-traditional application.
We caught up with our Sales Director, Tom Walker, who had this to say about the project, having revisited the site recently.
‘I was really pleased to see our Petrarch reconstituted stone installed to a fantastically high standard, across both the original phase, some 5 years ago and the more recent extension, creating a seamless link between the two parts of the project. The spectacular design of the façade coupled with this high quality installation has delivered a beautiful example of Petrarch applied in two very different yet equally stunning styles, expressing the characteristics of natural stone. We’re really excited to be adding this project to our portfolio, along with a celebration of a great project working with yourselves.’
In terms of both the product and service Huber has commended the APS package and very succinctly yet precisely asserted! ‘Fantastic product and fantastic customer service.’ Thank you. 😊 (And well done Clare Taylor you were named personally.)
Given that the second phase features new material, the client was super-impressed with how the old and new blend so well. Given the natural ageing qualities of Petrarch (emulating weathered stone), it makes it ideal in such instances.
