Variety is good, right? Recently when doing customer research someone said that trying to do different activities with their team on a regular basis ended up being a bit "samey-samey." I was surprised since what I'm offering is the same format every week. But it makes sense. When it comes to building relationships on remote teams, you might think doing a variety of things all the time keeps things new and fresh. In reality, people have to learn new rules and procedures each time. The focus of their attention becomes doing thing new thing correctly and not the actual socialization. The very act of adjusting to something else on a regular basis starts to feel repetitive. The rules might be the same, but the categories, questions, and most importantly conversations are new each week. It's a comfortable space where people know what to expect and can relax and joke around. It's familiar without feeling stale. That's what I designed Anywhere League to be, at least, and it makes me happy that my customers are seeing those benefits too. #remotework #teambuilding #remoteteammanagement #employeehappiness

I know first-hand that managing a #remoteteam can have its eases and challenges, and to me, is just as important of a responsibility as managing client accounts. Here's my secret to keeping the wheels on track... 👩💻 Your team members are people, with feelings, dreams, fears, etc. Use the Golden Rule and treat them how you'd want to be treated. It's possible to be fair and firm simultaneously! 👩💻 Trust them until they give you a reason not to. We all have lives, families, etc. to attend to, and #remotework allows us to work asynchronously. If tasks are completed on time and calls are attended, it shouldn't matter when the work happens. 👩💻Get face time weekly, to build comradery and culture. This creates personalities behind the names on Slack and email. And, when possible, get together IN PERSON! (cheers to our last team meet-up in San Diego 📸) 👩💻Find things to connect about, on a personal level. No, work teams are not family, but finding things in common makes work more fun. 👩💻 Invest time and money in their career growth. The more they grow in knowledge and experience, the more it will be reinvested into your company (hello, positive ROI), and the longer they'll stick with you. I'm proud to say that our team's average tenure is three years right now, partly due to this (and the agency is five years old, for context).
