An important takeaway from Timken's approach to Lean Transformation is that an infrastructure needs to be provided for acheiving a culture change. This has been effectvely highlighted by Robert Schoenberger in a recent IndustryWeek article. What caught my attention is that a Help Chain is required to escalate problem solving based on resolution time by providing technical and managerial support. This itself sends out a message that the organization is serious about continuous improvement! #lean #A3problemsolving

Just finished the course “Creating a Culture of Continuous Improvement”

Recently, our host Adrian C Danila CAPS, CAMT facilitated a dynamic Facilities Leadership meeting with esteemed industry leaders Josh Hayes, CAMT-L, CAPS, James Ohrn (he/him), CAPS, CSCS, CAMT, Scott Ployer CPM, MFE, CSM, CSHCO, NAHP-e, CGPM, and Jason Fein. The discussion encompassed a wide range of critical topics, including: Strategic Centralization: Josh Hayes shared Weidner's approach to centralizing maintenance operations by grouping properties into pods. This method optimizes skill sets across properties, reduces turnaround times, and enhances customer service by deploying specialized technicians where they are needed most.  Team Collaboration: Jason Fein emphasized the importance of combining resources from nearby properties to improve efficiency. By sharing maintenance staff across multiple properties, they ensure continuous coverage and improved preventative maintenance without overburdening individual teams.  On-Call Solutions: On-call duties remain a challenge, but innovative solutions like rotating teams and central call centers are being explored. These methods aim to balance workload and reduce the frequency of on-call shifts, enhancing overall job satisfaction. Future Focus: We also discussed the importance of training and career development for the next generation of maintenance professionals. Providing clear career paths and continuous learning opportunities can attract and retain top talent in the industry.
